Myths and perceptions are common tender when the sticky subject of immigration comes up.

Even before the recession I seemed to be bombarded with reports telling me how emmigrants are returning to SA.

Whenever I look closer it seems that those emmigrants are (for the most part) returning from the UK.

This leads me to the question:

Are those returning Emmigrants or migrants?

Did they go to the UK intending to make it their perminant home, or did they go intending to stay awhile and return home, or move on to greener pastures?

Frankly it's my opinion that all returning emmigrants from the UK are in fact returning migrants.

Are Homingcoming Revolution misleading the SA public.
 
My cousin recently got shipped from the UK(Born and bred pommy) along with his family, to open/run the Microsoft office in Cape Town. UK companies are actively shipping their staff to SA and I doubt a lot of those people who are from here originally, want to come back, they just don't have much of a choice.

Work permits just running out for many of the returnees.
 
Most saffas who go to the UK are new graduates who go over to do some travelling and get work experience. For most it is just a temporary thing.

Also, now that the working holiday visa has been done away with and the new requirement of a masters degree to get the tier 1 visa, far fewer people will go there.

They would rather live in the Uk than Cape Town ? This would explain the bugs in windows. Microsoft employees are insane !
 
Yip its a fraud, you just have to ask yourself how many returnees do you hear about coming back from Aus or NZ? If you do, and I know a couple myself, they returned to SA, lasted not even a year in CT and were on the plane back to AUK.

It's a boring cold grumpy humourless island full of soccer yobs anyway. I understand that people want to travel and get some world experience by why the hell go to such a souless place like the UK ? The quality of life is even awful.

Good riddance. The iq's of both South Africa and Australsia went up after they left.

While I agree that the UK is crap to say the least, lousy weather, over populated, crime etc, it sure as hell is a whole lot better than living in SA.

The high salaries and strong pound can make people do strange things.

Question...are you per chance from JHb ? That is the only way you could think living in the U.K is better than here.

London is arguably still the centre of the English speaking world, depending on your stage of life I can understand the appeal.

No place to raise kids though.

High salaries ? When you compare the cost of living the average salary of a white south African far exceeds that of the average person in the U.K.

Born & Bred Capetonian. Spent a year in London, you right could not make 2 years.
