Hello
I would just like to ask if I bring a Blackberry from outside South Africa into South Africa and place a normal pre-paid SIM in it - will it work? What will the costs be (data/call/sms)?

You'll need to pay the r59 for BIS.

Only for push emails. But if you put Opera mini on the phone before you come, then you can still browse (once putting in the correct apn), still use the gps and still make calls. I would define that as 'working'. But then if you intend to stay in South Africa I would recommend paying the R59 per month, otherwise whats the point of having a Blackberry.
And.....go for MTN if you intend on using BIS. Vodacom's speed sucks.

Few corrections, I owne a BB tour(Verizon) from America and all is working 100s. BB browser is working fine, no issues with anything since VC upgaded the bis. As for speed, definitly sorted no more issues with speed. Only VC offers prepaid bis at the moment.

I read that, while i sit here and its already 10mins into my BB trying to download App World. Speed just isnt the first thing in my vocabulary tonight, although something with an S describing the service is... :)
