Telkoms fibre cables

I just saw a TV ad about telkoms fibre cable they have appearently laid. They said it was enough to go around the world 3 times.

Does this mean they are finished laying all fibre optic cables down?, and how would i know if my area is fibre opted?

I see the telkomalways talking about new things on its network, that involves fifa 2010, will we see anything before the actuall soccer starts or do we have to wait until next year to see whats happening?

If big things are happening for adsl, would'nt it be better for telkom to throw out what ever it is they are doing now. And monitor this new network so they are prepared for the fifa and after, rather than goinglive last minute and then screw everything up.

1. dont believe all ads.
2. dont fall for ads.
3. They have pull in a lot of new fibers, each having say 144 cores.
to the fifa places they will at least have rings, in case one goes down. So all in all it might be about =world x 3.
But not to benefit you right now. The systems are being tested right now.
Putting in fiber to your house, not now. They are putting it in to big businesses 1st and later to houses.
 
so when will the houses be fitted with fibre, whats the point in having fibre though, if we have such slow internet, its like building a freeway of 100 lanes, but only one car uses it.

if you ask me that fibre is still on the reel, gathering moss in a shipping yard.
the impression i got from the ad is it's for the benifit for Fifa, not the consumer
 
so thats what all the hype was about in this new generation network, was the fibre for fifa only, but no speed increase for us.

I think someone has to type out a laymans FAQ on the issue as the majority of the people have a warped interpretation of what it entails.
 
so WHO is going to lay a complaint for false advertising.

Pls give us the address and lets all complain and demand fast, bigger , better European standards in Africa.
 
spoke to a telkom techie today.
He said they are busy upgrading two the ngn new generation network.
He does not know further about it, but will soon be ready at my exchange.

Its coming but its Africa, slowly.
