Maybe someone can explain this to my once and for all. We have local Torrent and NZB sites, yet there is the stigma of having to be part of something like this only on invite basis.

I have always thought that it is all about the content and the quality of the content, therefore the assumption (and yes I am well aware of where assumptions lead to) that the more people get involved the better the content and more of it will be available.

On many occasions on this forum and others, I have asked for an invite and have not received many responses. To be specific I have I have only received one but without confirmation, so no use after all.

This all seems to me pointless, as no one can really share the content that I have obtained and I am sure that there are many people/members of this same forum with the same problem.

So I plead to all of you lets get the word out there and lets share.

Lets make something that is great even greater.

I should have gone to politics (LOL). I don’t thinks so.:D

So can we all have some invites to these local sites (including me)?

Thanks

TomasW, start your own. I mean why not?

No, the higher the quality of those involved the better the content and general running of the system. How do you ensure good quality members? By operating on an invite system where you invite people who you know and trust and not inviting the general population, many of whom will just leech without giving it another thought and who don't actually care about the survival of the operation only about thier own short-term download needs.

Besides, these sites are hosted locally, which wasn't cheap the last time I checked so why should there be free access to all when this will only lead to higher running costs and degraded overall level of service?

Never really thought of starting my own. My point is why to re-invent something that is already there and working. I just want us to make it bigger and get more people involved in it. I mean besides the people at work no one rally gets to share the content that I download and there are so many other members of this forum just like me.

I agree with you "TheLoot", but you probably will gain more by giving more access to people than loose. In any case if people are not willing to share and will just leach than they can get banned.
My believe is that one has to give in order to receive, and if that does not happen than these members can get banned. But I do believe that one can gain more than loose. But yes I don’t have the answers to all the questions, I merely speak for my self.

If I suddenly had a thousand extra people leeching content it would not only affect the site but me directly....Banned or not the damage has been done

Everwhere where there's threads about local torrent sites and invites to them people get told to be more active on MyBroadband and then you are likely to get an invite.

In my opinion TomasW didn't read properly about how to get invites to these sites and what will make him read the rules when invited to these sites?

Work for it TomasW. Did you even try to read all the posts that there are about these sites?

Please note that it is very simple, one can still get the content from international sites and that is what I & other members have been doing. But the underlying point that some people are missing is to make the "local sites" better.

When it comes to reading the rules, well if you want to be part of something and make it work why wouldn’t we read the rules?

The point is, if you don’t give you will not receive. And how do you see what people are like if you don’t give them a chance. And I am not only referring to my self.

Let me put it in black and white terms for you...

I have invited 53 people to the local site that I am a member of.

Of those 53 people only 15 are actually contributing anything, and only 3 or 4 are contributing heavily. = 28% are successful invites.

half of the people I invited have rarely even used their accounts despite them telling me they had "so much to contribute" and "so many local gigs to use up". About ten of them never even ever used their accounts. A total waste of invites.

13 of the people are using them, but are leeching (using more than they are giving back).

So statistics tell me that 3 out of every 4 invites given are a total waste.

So why do you think I should trust you and give you an invite? I don't know you from a bar of soap. How do I know you won't also be one of the washouts and waste my invites and bring my name into disrepute?

The problem they were having is that a lot of people were invited, then these people leeched without seeding. The rules are simple and easy to follow yet some people didn't.

On a site like MyBroadband it's easy to see which people are willing to stay at a site for a while, who become part of the community. That's why there are so many posts that point to the fact that if you become a regular here and then ask for an invite, you will get it.

*edit*

Gary beat me to it. :)

jitte maar die mense is bitter!!!!!

Once again, content is everywhere, my point is, lets make local better. I will still get my content irrespective whether I am participating on our local sites. But why to support International sites when we can have equally/better local sites.

It's as if you didn't read our posts.

By making it the way it is now, the site has become better.

we can only make local better by joining people we really trust who have proved themselves. The rest are leechers who make it unpleasant for the rest of us. Bandwidth is not free... it is actually quite expensive. Why should I waste 75% of my bandwidth on people who are not going to give back in return?
