Hi all,

I need advice on a new Gfx card. I have the Gigabyte GT220 in mind as I can buy from Rectron and its R900 incl. It has 1GB DDR3 128bit HMDI DVI, VGA. Any other cards worth looking at?

Thanks in advance

Try put in a bit more for this HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL DVI-I / TVO R 1,055 excl. R 1,202 incl.

Geforce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 DVI HDMI - XFX R 869 excl. R 990 incl.

I would not buy that gt220 unless you feel like struggling, it that gt220 not a rebranded 9500gt?

From what I've heard, don't go for the GT220 ... rather look at 9800gt or 4850 as Killer says. Maybe even 4670 rather.

Ugh gt220 will give you much suffering. You'll be able to get an 88/9800 at that price I think...4850 might be stretching it. 4830 perhaps?

You can get a 4850 from prophecy for very little more and it'll murder the gt220.

Thanks killadoob. Need to change my 400W PSU as well. Will a 470W Gigabyte unit do? My PC specs are Dual Core E6300 2.8Ghz, 4GB Ram, and all the usual. Im only planning to run Fligh Sim X on my system, nothing else.

Ok, there's a new piece of the puzzle. Don't get the 4670 ... flight sim dislikes Radeons. I have an 8800GT that runs flight sim MUCH better than a 4870 even. Flight sim likes older generation nVidia's ... best ones to go for 8800GT / GTX, 9800GT / GTX+ ... even the GTX285 is slower then the 9800GTX+

Not even sure you need to change your 400w man.

Test it first before buying a whole new power supply that you do not need.

And on top of that, the second you SLI the card, it runs slower then just a single card in flightsim.

Now thats interesting! Its my only aim with this pc is to get my flight sim up and running again. You dont have a 8800GT/GTX lying around that I can buy? 9800GTX is bit expensive.

I've got the refurbs 88gt, 98gtx+ ... but I haven't had a chance to test this theory (Read it on Tom's Hardware). My last exam is on Thursday ... then I will have time. Going to test the FPS with the 4870, 8800GT and 9800GTX+ ... I currently have the 4870 in there on full graphics, and it chugs along like a stubborn snail. Let me play around this weekend, will let you know.

I too am building the PC purely for flightsim ... currently, in there I have the 4870 and 8800gt on physics, but it just slows it down.
