DoC National Colloquium on Broadband Policy

my my, they really must be bored(stupid/thick headed) to invite the public to come stone them!

Can somebody please try to steer them away from letting government create content, and insist that they spend that money on training community members to produce their own content.

Also, government creating Websites and Services leaves no room open for competition.

Oh please, throw me a bone. Just another diversion tactic to keep us thinking that they are actually going to do something. Schedule a meeting, make a whole bunch of promises with no time frames attached and in 2 years time we will still be sitting with a 384 line with a 1gb cap at a few hundred hard earned ZAR.

It is a nice gesture, and I'm sure that on some level, they are sincere in their effort to understand what the public wants. However, looking at the rest of government, this looks like window dressing, hiding the possibility that they already know exactly how they are going to stuff everything up to fling us 10 years into the past.

I would really like to be positive, but government's past actions are against them. The only slightly silver lining, is the fact that we have new players. Hopefully they are also playing a new game, with new rules.

It frightens me when legislation contains things like this:

"The draft policy is clear that all citizens have a right to basic broadband while Government and Non-Government Organizations must have access to broadband."

It has a way of being turned round such that Telkom agues that 'citizens ONLY have a right to basic broadband' and must there for pay exorbitant rates for the Privilege of full Broadband.

Government should not be regulating what we can have but rather unbundle the local loop, (hell unbundle the whole of telkom) and let market forces take over.

They know what we want. They can read the MyBB forums.

They are merely letting the public feel as if they are heard.

"Managed dissent"...

I think we need to start creating very active, constant, nationwide boycotts of all the parasitic parastatals.

We need to show the nation continuously, that these parasites are wasting their tax money and destroying the economy, under the guise of being benevolent government investments.

Force government out of business. They are parasites. Control the parasites or they will control you.

Create the world you want to live in...or they will.
