Nokia 6260 or Samsung D500??

Ok,
I have a contract upgrade (YAY) going to choose the phone tommorro (SAT). i have ended up with the 2 phones i like the most, and i cant decide...
SO
have any of you people got either of them - is there good, or is there bad

It really all depends on your needs. Out of the N6260 and the D500 - I would definitely go the 6260. If only for one reason - it's a smartphone.

I waited for many, many months for the 6260 to be released. While waiting I did a great deal of research into phones. (Too many bad reviews about the design of the 6260). So when it was finally released, I decided against the phone and settled for the Nokia 6670. Basically the same features as the 6260 except with a better quality camera and not a clam phone. I've been extremely happy with the 6670 - you can get some really great apps/games to install because of the Symbian OS.

For what it's worth: Stick to Nokia if possible.
It's not just about the features, but the quality, reliability and service availability.

We have a few hundred units of various makes..... and over the long haul,
Nokia has proven to be most reliable for us.
Some have been absolute *&%*^ .... but would not like to name them :)
 
well, the 6260 is a very nice phone, it just feels very light and cheap.... it feels like they have made this phone too big for the amount of components inside. The D500 on the otherhand is also a very nice phone, but it feels much more solid, and has a better screen & camera. When u go to get the upgrade ask to look at the phone's and make your choice from there.... Nokia do seem to have lost the extreme edge on the market they used to have. My next phone is probably going to be a samsung, they are making some awesome phones ATM.
 
Hmm...that is quite a difficult dicsion to make.

As Brooko said, the 6260 is a nice phone to have but it does look 'cheap-looking' why the D500 is strong and is a 'confident' [:D] phone to have, although I'd choose the Nokia because of the support which is probably better than Samsung's...
 
Hmmm...well i went today and looked at both the phones - i really like them both... i really like the samsung's "slide" and the nokias "flip"
BTW all of u seem to be saying that nokias service is good - HA thats a lie, i have taken my old phone in like 4 times with the same prob;em and eventually just demanded that they give me a new one - which they did :)

I dont really like the samsungs layout (ie the menu) but i like the nokia's

HELP...(but the samsung costs more :))
 
You get used to the samsung menu very quickly, my mom got a samsung a while ago and you figure it out very quickly, people need to get the idea out of their heads that the only user friendly phones are Nokia's, i dont have a problem with nokias, infact i have one myself.

skuzzy i agree with you about Nokia's support. I went to the Nokia Shop in Woodmead to get my phone repaired, only to be told by the woman behind the desk, in a very cheekey tone, that my phone was a grey import and that the service would cost an extra R400. I pointed to the lazer engraved ICASA sign on the phone, and that you wouldn't find phones in europe etc with the "Indipendent Communications Authority of South Africa" logo lazer engraved on any of their phone's and the phone must have been destend for south africa from before it left the factory....

She prosceeded to tell me that ICASA was infact the company that provided a lot of the components for the phone's in germany and that it was not our communications authority....(must also share the same logo as our ICASA in her little fanticy world:p) I got the phone from another NOKIA store in sandton and pay'd cash for it so i was pretty pissed off that they accused me of making grey imports....

It seems you just cant win in this country...

Anyway i told her to go an fsck herself and took my phone to vodaworld where they repaired it without any problems, on warranty, and i'm not even a vodacom subscriber:D


Skuzzy if i were you i'd weigh up the pro's and con's of the diff phone's.
Eg: If you think you will need EDGE support, then the samsung is NOT the right choice for you and i would get the Nokia, but if you want a phone that seems a bit more durable then go for the samsung.
 
Looks like i am gonna get the nokia...it has themes, more games and a 1.2 megapixel camera (who cares if its not a 1.3 with LED flash)
Will go tommorow and get it :)

if anything i would always choose nokia because i find them phones are the easiest to use. other models always try add something unique and spectacular which in the end makes the phone horrible to use.
 
I have had the 6260 for 3 months now, 34hrs of talktime without hassles (although nokia phones tend to start crying at about 100hrs). My only complaint with the phone is that the cover is a bit "cheap" it damages easily and since its not an express cover cant be replaced that easily.

My Brother has the D500 and has had nothing but headaches, took Vodacom 3 weeks to get his MMS settings working. The phone looks great but when it comes down to functionality its got its headaches.

The 6260 VPN works great and Vodacom will be releasing PTT soon enough.
D500 does have the advantage ito of the camera though.
 
I got the nokia 6260, and it rox :D:D
alchamy: you can get any non-express on fone's covers replaced. Just take it to nokia and they charge u R400- (not covered by warrenty)
 
Heya skuzzy, just breezed through this post today, if only i had seen at it earlier! :D
I was in the same dillema as u, I was a die-hard Nokia user, went for my upgrade, had my mind set on this brand new Nokia.... Thank-g0d for the sales rep who convinced me otherwise! He told me that the D500 would be the best phone I'll ever have, it's almost non-existent return rate, all the familiar sales rep jargon. After much debate, I took the D500, and it definately has been the best phone i have ever hade :)

Just for a comparison, my old man has the Nokia 9500, probably in the top five of the most powerful smartphones, and it turns out the D500 is infact more powerful than it, with more built-in memory, higher res camera, up to an hour of video, more powerful bluetooth, etc.

Anyway just my 2 cents :)

You didnt by any chance goto the cellucity in cavendish cos thats exactly what the guy there told me...i have had a nokia 6600 b4. I like the games and skins for the nokia and that swhy i got it :)

Ha... what a joke. Samsung failures (often within weeks of purchase) have proven to be an issue with us!
 
And why is that I have bought the Samsung D410 when it first came out. No problems so far.
 
The best phone is the least complex. The phones that worked best for me were a 5110 and a 3210 - with no camera, no GPRS, no MMS, no Bluetooth, no 262k colour screen ....

By the way, what is PPT?

It doesn't take a genius to operate a cellphone.

I recently got the Samsung D500, having had 4 Nokia cellphones previously. So far no problems, and it didn't take more then a few hours of playing with the Samsung to get "comfortable" with it's menu's etc.

I'm glad I switched to Samsung.
 
I'm one of these people that will usually not bother reading a manual & still manage to get an intuitive understanding of a piece of electronic equipment - I just explore my way around until it works for me - I only resort to reading "the manual" as a last resort...having said that I have an affinity for Nokia phones - I don't like all Nokia phones though - there are quite a few that repulse me...
