hi guys if any one can assist me with my query it would be much appreciated ... i am considering buying a new laptop and i have a budget of R5000 and im not to sure which laptop to purchase the laptop must have windows 7 thou. i have considered the Gigabyte Atom Series InNote Q1088 but it has XP thou. remember i have a budget of R5000 :D , it has to have 7 ? thanks in advance and if you give any suggestions or links it would be appreciated:)

Maybe Acer eMachine eME525-902G16Mi.
Celeron 2.2GHz
15.6" display
2GB RAM
160GB drive
DVD-RW
Windows 7 Home Basic

Should be around R4.8K

Chuck just under R1K extra at it and you can get the dual-core 2.1GHz with 3GB RAM, 250GB drive and Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Lenovo G550 has a larger drive, but slower Celeron processor, but I'm sure they're much more sturdy construction than Acer.

There is a cost associated with RAM upgrades. Often the slots are populated with small chips and you have to start from scratch to buy the memory you need. I would make this a condition of sale (ie. I'll buy the machine if you add X amount of RAM without a service charge or with a discount).

As a rule, laptops are more expensive, more fragile and cannot easily be upgraded. People often don't use them as intended - lugging them around - but more for showing off. Maybe consider a desktop.

If you want a different OS, then I would advise getting one with it supplied. Many of them need special CPU drivers (ACER for example) and just using a separate disk won't do it. If they haven't released a driver for it that works under Win7, then what will you do?

I have just purchased one and I am very happy with it.

It comes with Vista Home Premium pre-installed, and includes a FREE windows 7 upgrade coupon... you fill it in online and Microsoft sends a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium to you via DHL. My copy is sitting in Oliver Tambo sorting facility at the moment. 6 days ago I sent off the upgrade request.

The notebook is a brilliant balance between budget and performance. I have no complaints with it.... it does Win7 Aero without a hassle and takes all I throw at it with ease...

Really... I would not even look at a Celeron or Atom netbook.

:)
