What type of cable is this..

No it won't, I've tried. A normal mini usb has 2 cut offs on the one side, that only has one.
 
I tried the mini usb again. The problem I have is that the connector is too thin. It doesn't fit over the whole male part of the HTC phone.
 
Looks like a custom plug. Just like Samsungs have their own plug for USB and charging. I kinda sorta always totally hate this.
 
I just checked on my wife's HTC touch duo and it indeed uses a mini-USB connector even though the phone port is shaped like the one in your photo. It's just that the one in your photo is pretty darn large. I reckon you need to take it to HTC/Leaf tomorrow.
