I've been looking at getting a podcast app for my Bold on VC, mostly because I'd like to be able to listen to podcasts in the morning driving to work.

Looking at Podtrapper (www.versatilemonkey.com) it seems to work great, especially the download over the Air option (I don't want to stream).

I've tried running it without the APN and it still seems to be able to download files, over 3G, beyond the limit of BIS. How do I know it isn't costing me an arm and a leg to download a 45 MB file?

Any other podcasts solutions?

Hi there,

PodTrapper chunks the downloads to bypass the BIS limitations. You can ensure it doesn't use WAP or TCP by going to Settings -> Download Settings -> (Menu) Advanced and disabling those two options.

Feel free to follow up in my forums if I can answer anything else for you.

Thanks for confirming this! Must say, I gave it a spin last night and it really seems to be working quite well. Downloaded via 3G about 90MB worth of Podcasts and listened to an Engadget one on my way to work this morning. Yet to receive any notification from Vodacom that I exceeded my monthly call limit of R100 (which hopefully would kick in if I downloaded 90 MB at R2 a meg on the internet APN). I especially love the feature where it only downloads when you're connected to power!

Well done Marcus! Will probably buy!

Only weird thing - "up" volume on speakerphone got stuck in all apps (Media Player as well as Podtrapper) and wouldn't go past a certain volume. Seemed fixed after a battery pull.

As far as I know Viigo also allows podcast downloads

The link is versatilemonkey not versatilemonkeys. Edit the URL and you will go through to the site :)

When I tried it, they specifically mentioned only "streaming". Any idea whether they do the "chunk" download thing like Podtrapper?
