I only have WiMax offering in my area because the scum of the planet steal any cable telkom put in the ground. Let it be known i am only 70m from the exchange, with only my neighbours stables inbetween my property border and the exchange.
I have searched the planet for a solution to my issues. 512kb is just crap. Its worse than 3G in terms of bandwidth. But a 512kb line is far better for gaming than 3G could ever be.
So what to do.
I have 3 WiMax units on my property, so 6 telephone lines. No data till recently.
I upgraded 2 units for data. So i had 2 512kb lines.
I think bought a D-Link Di-LB604 broadband load balancer internet gateway, and teamed/bonded my two WiMax lines into a single 1024 down and 512k up solution.
As long as your ISP supports multiple account access and can give you a static IP on your account. You are good to go.
Downloading at 100Kb/s is far better than 49Kb/s and as for latency. With the packets splitting up between two lines based on load and TX/RX requirements, Online gaming pings COD4/COD5 40ms - 60ms (not as awesome as a 20ms - 30ms 4Mb DSL ping but a cow patty load better than 130ms - 150ms

The unit is only R950 as well so its not a bank buster. However you will pay more for the lines, R520.00 just for the signal then you still need data.
But it works, it rocks and im far happier than i was with my stupid 3G fail service.
Oh, I also get 4-5 bars on MW2 and can host games without lag issues for connecting players.
