Readers must pay for online news, says Murdoch

And in the headlines today, readers generate ad revenue by reading news elsewhere.
 
i was listening to the zatechshow the other day. somebody mentioned that the perception that everything on the net should be free is wrong. somebody else responded that google has proven the exception to this and that in fact, most people are happy to receive text ads if they get great services from google for free.

the problem is that google is making a killing and nobody can figure out how to effectively replicate their success. of course it makes murdoch wince with envy - he's used to calling the shots and taking the cream.
 
Good luck with that! murdoch, when you newspaper stuffs is even more isolated and no longer just because its cruddy come crawl back on all fours. In fact for his papers i think there should be a fee to read it just to remove circulation ;)

The thing is if people want to offer content online and ask for money to view it, thats their right. If people want to offer content for free, thats their right to.

In an article I read entitled the candlemakers petition. Its a spoof on companies asking for protection from competition. In the petition the candlemakers ask government to force people inside the whole time so they need to buy candles for light, because the sun is eating away at their revenue's.
 
I've found logical ways to save money and make excellent use of my broadband.

- no longer buy magazines
- no longer buy newspapers
- no longer watch tv (10 years already, first 5 was reduced watching)

Furthermore, as a forumite and twitter I no longer worry that I will miss vital news, my virtual community supplies a neverending stream of the latest on a wide range of topics.

I also read my news by Topical link, in other words, I go to root sources myself for news on topics that interest me, sidestepping a 'presentation' of it.

I enjoy reading blogs and opinions by very respected journalists from around the world, for free on many specialised issues.

The oldtimers are fading into the distance, and their empires shrink as the services they offer have become obsolete, in a world where the information flows, and the users will keep it that way.

How or they going to stop sites from buying 1 news paper and copy + pasting it to the rest of the world? ... I mean if we have to read yesterdays news 1 day later then it won't really be yesterday.
 
Everything the owner of Faux news touches online turns to ****. He is really retarded in his online endeavor's and cant understand why everyone else kicks his ass online.
 
I'm willing to pay if the content cant be found elsewhere for free. Otherwise I would be an idiot :o
 
If internet was free to all South Africans I would gladly pay an online sub to read the news daily.

But guess what..... aint ever going to happen :p
