They say it wasn't a pen because Gerrard did not have control of the ball. Going by that logic it should then be okay for defenders to just kick attackers anywhere in the box. Freekick won't be a problem. Just shove the attacker or give him a good kick or even a rugby tackle when the FK is taken. In fact the same rule applies to the entire field. I never realised Football was like NFL and you could run around fouling people so long as they're "not in control of the ball" :confused:

I can't believe this time last year Liverpool were top of the Premiership with the same players.What has happened-have the other teams got that much better??!!
 
lmao... pooh had Alonso last year :) and less aging players and a coach who didn't just back 4 players!
 
It was not a penalty. Howard webb had a clear view. Gerrard lost control of the ball , even if gallas did not foul him , the pace of the ball would have taken it out out field for a goal kick. steven had no chance of catching it after his heavy last touch
 
I understand liverpools frustration, it was a tight one to call. Those are quite 50/50. I think for a ref to give a penalty so early in such a big clash he has to be 110% sure that it was a penalty else he could spoil a perfectly good game. I think the ref had quite a good grip on the game and wasn't scared to show the yellow card to keep players in check

Okay so if a player loses control of the ball and it is going out for a thrown in an opposition player is then entitled to lunge in and foul the player.

Webb is useless. Later in the game the same thing happened but outside the box and he gave the free kick. :rolleyes:

I don't think Gallas lunged, he made a bit of a rash tackle and seemed to try and pull out. That coupled with the ball running out of play is why Webb didn't give the penalty.
 
Which ever way you try and spin it he took the player out. Anywhere on the pitch that is a foul. Clear cut penalty.

Even Henry thinks so.....:D

it wasn't given. Was a 50/50 call in my mind. Can say what you want about tackles anywhere on the pitch they will never give those in the box. Like the little arsharvin touches that he got booked for, will never be given in the box.
 
It was a penalty without a doubt.
It does not matter if a player has the ball or not - if he is tackled and the opponennt does not make contact with the ball it is a foul.

But in soccer you win some and lose some - this kind of thing happens all the time and it just didn't go our way!

Gerrard did have a heavy touch to it, but we'll never know if he had beans for lunch that could have given him the extra propullsion to catch the ball and slot it passed Almunia.

Torres also was bullied and kicked all over the pitch but Webb as usual turns a blind eye to that, it took Arsharvin 5 attempts and killing Agger to catch Webbs eye.

Many agree it is Steve's reputation that precedes him.

Of last week at Blackburn,
"Gerrard received a measure of criticism for going to ground too easily in the area at Blackburn last Saturday, but he had a clear case here." Phil McNulty.

The measure should have been bucket loads. As far as "too easily", that is an incredibly generous understatement. There was no contact, he fell as though shot

clearly you havent seen him play, he for one doesnt fall over easily all the time, thats the thing I like about him. For a short guy his got good balance and trys to stay on his feet as much as possible.

It was clear as daylight he was taken out.

However you're correct about his diving will coming back to haunt in the future with close calls
