Manchester United suffered their most embarrassing FA Cup defeat for 26 years when Leeds United pulled off a stunning 1-0 third-round victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A 19th-minute goal from in-form striker Jermaine Beckford gave the League One (third division) leaders a shock victory as United lost at this stage of the competition for the first time since third division Bournemouth beat them in 1984.

Beckford struck when a 50-metre ball from Johnny Howson went over the top of the champions’ defence, allowing him to control it and angle a shot wide of United goalkeeper Tomas Kuszczak.

It was the first time Alex Ferguson had suffered defeat in the third round, the stage at which the top clubs enter the FA Cup, since he became United manager in 1986.

It was the first time United had lost to lower league opposition since 1984.

Amazing stuff! The Fa Cup's back!

Wannabe manure fans are saying that this is OK as they want to focus on EPL !!!! They do not understand (or know) the Leeds/ManU history! This was HUGE!

Its not that they dont understand, they just dont know. Alot of them are new United fans and dont know the clubs history.

Its typical when they lose a competition for them to brush it off and say, it wasnt that important anyway.

Huge win for Leeds. Good for them. Would be nice to see Leeds in the premiership again (one day). They will certainly be in the Championship next season.

please, if you love a club you'll get to know about its history, they're all plastic fans that just look at the results column. True United fans will know the true meaning of this defeat.

I know more about Man U's history than all the Man U fans know and I'm a West Ham fan lol ;p

Gotta love the FA Cup....I wish I could watch minnows every week, I think my minnow team, Hyde United were out 1st round :O
