Can someone please assist me with the correct method of setting up my Telkom email on my iPhone.
I believe I have the correct settings but when I try to save them I get a message that states that it cannot be done with SSL and do I want to continue without SLL.
If I confirm then it just runs without actually doing anything further.

Can I state the obvious and recommend that you sign up for a free gmail account that works perfectly with the iphone?

I presume you have used Other as your email option.
Under Advanced there is option under Incoming Settings
Use SSL - This should be OFF.

bwana, i do have a gmail account but i would like access to my Telkom Email as well, as this is my business mail.

Keru, thanks for the input but I don't find that advanced settings tab when I attempt to set up the account.

Are you following these steps ?

1.Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
2.Choose your email account type. For setting up email to work with your Telkom email address tap Other.
3.Enter:
•Your Name
•Enter your full E-mail Address. Example: info@example.com
•Your E-mail Password
•A description.
4.Tap Save
5.Tap POP so it is highlighted.
6.Enter:
•Incoming Mail Server as mail.example.com, replacing example.com with the domain of your hosting account.
•Your full E-mail Address. Example: info@example.com for User Name
•Your E-mail Password
•Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) as mail.example.com, replacing example.com with the domain of your hosting account.
•Your full E-mail Address. Example: info@example.com for User Name
•Your E-mail Password
7.Tap Save

Thanks keru, I've managed to get the settings right so that I'm able to receive mail, but still not coming right with sending out. I'll try a few other things though.

You need to put the outgoing SMTP server of your ISP in mail settings.

This is usually different for your network provider and Wi-Fi provider with these private email addresses.

So if you are using your home wifi which is on SAIX (telkom) bandwidth, it should be something like smtp.saix.net. If you are on afribost for example, it should be something like smtp.afrihost.co.za or mail.afrihost.co.za (this were just examples). To get the proper SMTP server, contact your ISP if you are using Wi-Fi or your network provider (vodacom, MTN etc) if you are using GPRS/EDGE/3G.

Note if you have a Vodacom SMTP in settings for example and switch over to your home wifi which is telkom SAIX, you will not be able to use the Vodacom SMTP server onthe Telkom SAIX network and will need to change the current SMTp accordingly in settings.

Hope this helps

Hi

Did you solve the outgoing mail problem? I have the same problem with email from Telkom ISP. I can receive email but I am unable to send email. Please let me know how you solved it. Thanks. VijayN

If you are on vodacom change the outgoing server to smtp.vodacom.co.za. Don't know what MTN's address is.

Aw shucks.

Apologies - found this after starting the new thread...
Mods - can you merge topics?

Anyhows - the above doesn't really help, since my particular problem sees Telkom working on my Ipad, but not on my iPhone... Which is confusing the hell out of me!
