Three months' discount on residents' rates bills, says FF

The FF Plus in Tshwane on Wednesday demanded three months' discount on residents' rates bills for waste not having been removed.

"After talks with the Pretoria Taxpayers Association, the FF Plus in Pretoria will join an official dispute that is currently prepared," the party's councillor in the Tshwane metro council, Conrad Beyers, said in a statement.

"In the dispute the demand for the discount is made due to the non-delivery of services for which taxpayers paid."

Waste was not removed in the Tshwane metro area this week due to a workers' strike. Beyers said there had been several serious problems last year, the last of which took place around Christmas Day.

"In 2009 there were at least five serious problems with waste removal. The year 2010 is not even one week old and there are new problems.

"During the last six cuts in waste removal the ANC had six different excuses for the problem. This last time they blamed labour brokers. The numerous excuses are getting absurd and the time has come that various role players and residents act in a co-ordinated way to address the problem."

The FF Plus hoped other organisations would join the dispute as soon as it had been officially declared.

"We will follow the route of talks, mediation and arbitration at first in order to address our demands and complaints. If there are no results we will consider more radical action regarding our demand for discount on tax money."

The FF Plus are idiots. Rates are already accrued and paid for services not rendered so why must benefits in the form of future discounts? In a normal business transaction, they should refund the portion of rates on non service delivery.

I cannot clearly understand how your point differs from what they (FF+) are saying...

And do you stay in Tswhane/Pretoria? I do, so I can say this municipality is useless and last year at one time out garbage bins stood outside for 3 weeks before being emptied.

Why only 3 months?

Been living in Pretoria since 1987 and just because I'm anti-ANC doesn't mean I'll support FF+ to the core. The FF is saying we should only receive incentives in the form of discount in the future for non service delivery, but people like us have already paid our rates and got nothing in return. Why should I pay something full in advance? So in retospect, my point does differ from FF.
