Best TV for my budget?

max I want to spend on a new tv is R15k ... minimum size 40" .... Full HD ... whats the best tv available for my budget ?
 
Seriously, if you're going for a 40", Full HD is an unnecessary expense.
 
You should pick up a Samsung/Panasonic 46" Full HD for R15k if you shop a bit...
 
Anything less than 50" and you're unlikely to really see the difference between HD Ready and Full HD. And even if you do, it's so minimal that it really doesn't justify the few grand extra it will set you back.

More than 50" and the difference is noticeable enough to justify the extra money if you have it just lying around.
 
Hi there, I'm in a similar boat but my budget is 10k. I'm trying to decide between a 5 series 40" full HD or a 42" HD ready....

Many have said the difference between HD ready and Full HD is hardly noticable however I do play tons for PS3 games and bluray stuff so I think this won't be the case
 
Personal opinion: Get the agent/retailer to show you the same Blu-Ray movie on both TV's and see if the difference is enough to justify the extra money (or in your case, the smaller screen).
 
12k for both sounds like a good deal ... from my experience and what ive heard, picture quality on a bravia is inferior to a samsung and they cost twice as much on a like for like basis .... ???

I like the tv's that have a small frames around the sides, not a huge fan of the samsungs and Lg's that have thick piano finish borders ... who still makes these ?
 
oh and do I go Plasma or LCD ? I would love an LED but they are stupidly priced ...
 
Oh, you're going to get varied responses with this.
Honestly, these days it boils down to personal preference.

Everybody is going to have their own opinion as to which technology is better so you're wasting your time asking. Rather do some online research and decide for yourself.

I see another "ATI vs Nvidia", "PS3 vs 360", "PC vs MAC" debate on the way so best to rather avoid it entirely and pretend you never asked. ;)
 
It's a shame we can't buy [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE46B650T2-46-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B001UE8LXS/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1262945181&sr=1-10]TV's[/ame] from the UK.
 
My personal opinion is that right now, plasma is the better choice.

1. Relatively equally priced for the optimal size screen (around 40" to 50").
2. Displays black slightly better than LCD due to the inherent backlight issue.
3. General picture quality is roughly the same. (Quality usually varies more based on manufacturer than based on the technology used.)
4. LCD has a longer lifespan but who really cares? The likelihood of ever exceeding the lifespan of the plasma are slim to none.
5. The legacy 'burn-in' issues with plasma are a thing of the past.
6. As the screen sizes increase, plasma starts slowly taking the lead in overall picture quality.
 
Forgot point 7: Plasma traditionally has better viewing angles than LCD. (Although granted this is improving in the LCD market.)
 
I picked up a full HD 47" Philips for R13999 a couple weeks back, I'm pretty happy with it.
