Video, Canon HV40, XH-A1s, 500d, 7d

Hi

After a month of research online I am no closer to deciding which route I will be taking for video

I have a 500d which shoots 720 video (i dont call 20 frames a sec on 1080 acceptable)

Taking video on an SLR is very clumsy, its ok for film or documentaries but the lack of auto focus and motorized zoom and manual controls(on 500d) make it really not up to the job

So i decided to go for a proper camcorder

The first question was prosumer or consumer

I have read up a lot on the HV range, which looks excellent
There are a few lacking features like manual controls etc

The cheapest prosumer canon is the XH-A1s, which seems to retail for about R36k!

I can use the 500d for now and save up for the XH-A1s or buy the HV40 and be done

I could also sell my SLR lenses whch will probably let me get the XH-A1s now

I guess the first question you will ask is what will it be used for (order of use)

1) 80% HD web content
2) 15% DVD
3) 3% SD TV
4) 1% HD TV

Would like to submit the odd video for stock use as well

Any HV40 and XH-A1s owners here - please add your 5c!

(you might ask why only Canon, the sony's tend to be too automated and propriety memory cards scare me away. All my stuff is already canon so i would rather keep it that way )

How much are you going to use the manual controls? What are you wanting to control manually (you seem to want autofocus and motorized zoom)?

Does your footage need to have a film look, i.e. frame rate and depth of field?

Why are you only looking at Canon and not Panasonic?
