White FNB staff to get bursaries

The only time you hear of Solidarity is when there is a "white" issue. Irritates the cr@p out of me.

Agreed. Also what about all those racially-based organisations that would never exist if one replaced the word 'black' with 'white'? Thinking of stupid organisations like the Black Management Forum and the Black Lawyers Association.

Solidarity is going to represent whoever makes up the majority of their membership base. In this case it's white people.

I know that you are saying, but that is their support base. there is more that enough unions who stand up for black rights. Do you think NUM will make a stand for white issues?

Shred, maybe the reason for that is that is there are no instances where whitey blatantly gets given the advantage over anyone else.

I'm quite surprised the issue wasn't handled through the union that deals specifically with all bank employees (SASBO)
 
In a statement on Thursday, Solidarity said white FNB staff members who were excluded from a FirstRand black economic empowerment trust would in future have access to the same benefits offered to black employees by the black empowerment trust.

No, it's just that as a union, all their issues are about race, and not about other things like working conditions, pay, benifits etc.

how do you know what else they do? Are you a member? Do you subscribe to their newsletter?

I think it is great that there is one body out there in South Africa that is speaking up for the minority. That's what democracy, equality and freedom of speech is all about, isn't it?
