Ok its a pretty simple topic.

Im interested to see what results come up in here. He doesnt need to be greatest footballer ever to be your favourite. Who is your favourite footballer and why? Do you remember the main reason/s for becoming your fav.

I have to go with Thierry Henry. In 2001 i became a proper football follower and what seriously started it all was this man. His goal against Man United at Highbury (turn and strike) still is rated in the Top 10 premiership goals ever. I sat up and took notice of football that day. Since then he has done amazing and unbelievable things with the ball. I always admire pace and speed in athletes and Henry in his prime was equivalent to Ronaldo... the way he used to skin and outstrip defences week in and week out is something i wont ever forget.I could literally type pages about the man but in short these are a few reasons he will go down as my all time fav (for now at least).

Again, its not about who technically was the best (Pele,Maradonna etc) but rather who is your fav and how come. :)
 
Javier Zanetti. Living legend, the only player still around since I was kid starting to support my inter boys.

I have had lots of favourites over the years.

Zidanne, Ronaldinho, Bergkamp, Guardiola, Cantona, Keane, Ronaldo (Brazilian)

I have to admit that there is one player who is currently my favourite of all time. I have watched him very close for about 6 years now.

Lionel Messi​

His attitude towards football, becoming the best player in the world against the odds. His attitude towards the press, he does not like to talk to the media.

His technical ability and dribbling skill is the best the game has ever seen, not to mention his willingnes to stay on his feet compared to other players who with the slightest touch will fall in order to win the foul.

I first noticed him in the Barcelona academy. It was evident then, that he would develop to be one of the greatest players ever to play the game.

The scary part is, i dont think we have seen the best of Messi yet.

i can see why Giggs is a firm fav. all that dedication to one club and still making 1st team appearances at his age :wtf: its mind-blowing. Giggs and Scholes are two Man U players i can honestly take my hat off to. this is for my generation obviously.....

Their play made me the soccer loving person I am now.
 
the best player i have ever watched has to be Ronaldinho! i don't think anyone could match his talent when he was in his prime...not even Ronaldo or Messi.

jks aside I would have to say Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce, most deadly combo in defence!

From then on it was Roberto Baggio, York/Cole combo, Ole Gunner Solkjaer, Del Piero, Buffon, Cannavaro (year of the last world cup), Ronaldinho, C. Ronaldo and Messi.

Cantera your comment about this isn't 100% accurate... Messi spends almost all the time on the ground due to his ability to keep the ball with him. Ronaldo on the other hand spends 45% of the time in the ground due to his pace and the rest due to his love for rolling around in the grass :D
 
MY sentimental favorite player ever is Dennis Wise. Has been since 97/98 Charity Shield. Cheeky, tough and passionate player.

However, favorite all time has to be... Maldini/Ronaldinho. Maldini for his superb intelligence on the pitch and sheer athleticism and Ronaldinho for that outrageous factor that he introduced into games. I mean that one goal against Chelsea back in 04/05 was so sublime, and so utterly ridiculous I was happy we conceded. Nuff Sed.

I hate that over rated prat. How he didn't manage more red cards I'll never know. Which leads me to my choice :D :

Roy Keane. No other player had the entire team tangled with his will the way Keano did. A driving force, the likes of which have disappeared from football.

He was only a prat in the eyes of opposition supporters and with good reason. Anyone remember when he went in for a bad tackle on Nicky Butt (I think it was) and the ref ended up giving Butt a card and letting off ol' Wisey :) *sigh* Legend.

That said, try and find an opposition supporter who actually liked Roy Keane as a player or Patrick Viera as a player and I'll show you a fraud. That's the way it is really...

I've got a friend who is a Liverpool player who rates both. Though he does give Keane the edge because Viera's passing gave United the FA Cup in '99 :)

"Rating" then is not the same as liking them. Please man...
 
I don't see a need for any distinction to be honest. Also, I remember exactly what Liverpool folks made of those two back in the day. Easy to look at them now and remark on the work they did. It's a tad different when have to watch them week in week out.
