After his review of the Canon S90 (positive that it was), I can't be bothered.
Especially with a sensationalist, yet irrelevant, title like that.
I skimmed through most of this badly written article, only reading the 'today' and 'moral' bits. What's the point of his rant? there has always been bad amateurs (hobbyists as he calls them) in every profession. From the few mistaken visits to articles on his site in the past, he himself takes "awful picture
Why does he stereotype the sexes? Why does he rant against people sitting at a computer, when his income is based upon sucking those people sitting at a computer in to donate to his website?
He rants for large format cameras, against DSLRs, and for point and shoots (well apparently just the Canon Powershot S90, judging by his linking). He rants against post production, and yet his hero, Ansel Adams, surely spent hours, if not days, working on each print in the dark room. He rants against multiple exposures, by using examples of documentary or journalism not being possible with multiple exposures - forgetting that hobbyists aren't photojournalists, and photojournos don't use HDR for news images.

The point I assume he is trying to make is valid. Shoot more, think more, plan more, spend less money and don't edit each picture (whether it is from a fashion shoot or little Timmy's birthday party) to the point where it looks like someone vomited pixels - are all valid points... which have been argued for decades by much better photographers, and indeed, writers.
The point of my rant? Don't bother reading his biased, money-seeking articles. There are much, much better photography related websites for those that don't spend each second shooting like the "pro's."

Nice article. I have always said I am just as capable of taking a great photograph with my cellphone camera than someone with a R100,000 camera. It is all about the subject and the composition!
I agree with you. Whole lot of blah blah blah. The digital age has made photography more accessible and popular than ever before. That's good for everybody. The "bad" hobbyists may just be avid PS'ers now. So what? If you are able to take good photos it will stand out even more vividly in the crowd of voluminous mediocrity. Computers have given photography a new lease on life.

Here's what I learnt - Now that the only camera you'll ever need has been discontinued (his beloved D40) referral link sales are down. What to do? Create a new only camera you'll ever need - this time the S90 and while you're at it make sure his D40 sheeple - the people who bought into his nonsense the first time around - want one too. Sales are up and people can go back to supporting his growing family through this website, as crazy as it might seem.
The guy is a blogger. He writes this mundane controversial crud to get traffic to his site so he can sell stuff. Which is great for business because despite what he says photography as a hobby has never been bigger.
Almost everyone has at least one camera whether it be a phone, p&s or a dslr. People spend time on the PC because thats where the darkroom is now - the only difference is that what used to take hours takes minutes and it only requires a PC with the software the camera manufacturers give you and not a storeroom full of chemicals.
Anyway - thats what I took home from skimming through. My cat started yawning and it was much more interesting.
