Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance has lambasted the minister of basic education for her mistake in announcing the wrong figure of 2009 matrics who had qualified for bachelor degree studies.

"It beggars belief that the department of basic education could not even do the basic arithmetic needed to calculate the matric exemption rate," said DA shadow minister for basic education Juanita Kloppers-Lourens in a statement on Saturday

The DA also attacked the minister of doing little more than buying herself official vehicles worth R1.7m.

Furthermore, the party said, Motshekga failed to deliver on her pledge to deliver 30 million workbooks for Grade 1 to Grade 6 pupils in time for the 2010 school year as part of the new curriculum. This was because the department advertised the tenders to deliver the books too late, the party said.

So no 500 000 jobs, no 30 million textbooks. All classic cases of the ANC politicking in the runup to the elections and not following through on their promises.

I'd like to see the ANC supporters on the forum try spin their way out of this little hole, with school starting next week and no textbooks in sight. The minister is a liar and is damaging the education of tomorrow's leaders. She should be fired - but this is Africa, where we protect our cadres and comrades, at the expense of an entire nation, right?

What saddens me the most is it is continually those who can't help themselves and rely on this failing system that continue to vote for the ANC. It is unfortunate that these people don't know better.

A better life for all? As much as things change, things seem to stay the same.

I agree with everything you said except the part bolded. The is not damaging the education of the future leaders, the leaders do not need an education if you look at the current bunch.

I didn't mean politicians, I meant business leaders and the people actually responsible for keeping this country afloat (not the leaders who drag it down).
 
soon we will have to colonise them again to teach them to read and write before they go back to the stone age in next 5 years
