The Price of Apple MacBook Pros Around the World

Not sure why, but as South Africans we are not allowed to do direct business with any company in the world. (See if you can find a www.sonystyle.co.za somethere).

You cant buy directly from HP, Apple, Asus, arggh....the list goes on.

Think the only one that you can buy directly from is Dell.

Spoke to an advocate yesterday, he said that with the new Consumer Protection act that comes into effect in Oct this year company's will get nasty surprises if and when consumers institute class action lawsuits for anti competitive pricing. Think car prices (30 - 40% more expensive in SA) Electronic consumer goods, electricity prices, everything that affects a consumer basically. Just a little patience.

so if it costs $1200 in the USA and $1760 here, it's better to have a nice holiday in the USA for a few days? because that's a saving of $560 (Roughly R4000)

well a trip to the USA and back will cost around R5000 if i'm right, with SAA....

so if you gonna buy an apple/Mac, instead of giving your money to core, rather go to the united states for a few days, for only R1000 extra
 
I am not sure a plane ticket return to the US can only be 4 oddk keep.

You could however import it using myus.com as well. Ebay even. I think a really good business idea would be to move to the US and send people shyte from the US. Have an online store but in america and you ship to SA's, could make a killing i reckon.

Takes 1 day for stuff from newegg, charge 10% plus shipping. Would be cheaper and people would buy stuff if you could get it here within 7 days.

ah, i see now - around R5000 to there, but not back as well.

all i'm saying is, if you wanna but an imac - you could put the R4000 you would save towards airfair, and pay R6000 to fly to the USA instead of R10 000. (if you've always wanted to go there)
 
What about getting 5 okes together who want one? maybe flying over for a day may work out cheaper then?

well one will work easily as you can just say you brought it with you - i.e "it's yours" = no import tax.



- to convince customs that 1 opened laptop belongs to you: R4000 saving
- trying to convince customs that all 5 iMac's still in boxes are yours: priceless
 
Ya but even if you must pay the tax it will still work out cheaper, 14% of 1200 is better than an extra 400-500 dollars.

So if you could save 300 dollars x 5 =1500 x 7.30 = 11 grand, i dunno i guess myus is the logical choice though :D.

Those things have to way nearly 20kg so apart from the duties and vat at the airport you've also got to worry about the possibility of some hefty excess baggage fees.

Depending on where you're going you might also have to add on 7-8% or more local sales tax to the advertised price.

Flights to the US are extra baggage both ways. It's 23kg x2 economy allowance.
 
Pisses me off that same macbookpro is SA is 10 grand more expensive than in the states. The markup is completely ridiculous!
