Natal: Not all it's cracked up to be?

Cash generating gimmick. It's not the glossy high tech future from the movies just yet. I think it will maybe get them some new customers that get taken in by the oooh! aaah! (like the wiiwii) factor, and then get bored and get rid of it.

Casual gamers will probably like it.

It will not be the first time that Microsoft shows off new tech or software with Dazzling features, and when the final product comes to market, its watered down 90% - So its safe to say, this is typical Microsoft!

Typical of technology companies. I don't believe Microsoft are unique in this. It happens all the time; they find it is going to cost too much to be attractive or they cannot build the prototype hardware into a unit small enough to sell.

what I find more ouch is that its still a lot more compelling than sony's wand, onboard processor or not

Another wet dream? or are you talking about hands on experience. (Not good for that wand of yours at your age)

Even with Natal's performance as demo'd during E3 last year, it would still face huge challenges as a gaming interface...full gesture gaming is a major paradigm shift, so you got a manufacturer with the tool, gotta still have developers with the same mind shift to develop using it and then a gaming audience willing to use it and MS definitely does not have both camps in their corner...it's strange with the smallest of movements, i can probably do about 8-10 things with my mouse but with gestures, they would at least 10x more exaggerated.

IS the wand the better option, well, Sony has experience with many gesture based systems and i got a feeling that they are not only gonna get it right, but gonna offer the best interface for this type of gaming with a reasonable expectation of some core games using the wand. Developers are not just impressed but shown keen interest in the wand...seems the opposite for Natal....

Time will tell, but it's unlikely that Natal will be more successful in gaming than the wand, but the other non-gaming applications look great although too much effort...

Make sure you put your wand away when your done playing with it.

...full gesture gaming is a major paradigm shift, so you got a manufacturer with the tool, gotta still have developers with the same mind shift...

So you make it a contractual obligation (that may not actually be the case :p) for developers to include its use in your games like the wii waggle stick and the DS touch screen.

+1

2010 will show that the other offerings are still years behind Nintendo.

i must agree with IAP here, the xbox and Ps3 is miles ahead of that wii childrens console

it just doesnt have enough power!

You laugh.... then you still go home and play with a controller that hasn't changed since the 90's

Natal wont happen and the Wand will be too complicated for PS's users.

It will take time. :)

IAP, when are you getting a real console? :D

OT/ been playing Tiger Woods and Grand Slam tennis online - loving it!

Having one for a long time, everytime I look at the alternatives I just shudder and have to control myself not to vomit/puke! :D

I'm talking next-next generation. Like the Wii. Bet you're to embarrassed to admit you want one. (Tip: say it is for the kids).

:D
