Critics claims the story of a white US Marine who saves an alien race perpetuates the "white Messiah fable" and suggests that non-whites are primitives incapable of helping themselves.

haha... it has also been hit by claims of Bestiality.
There is a cut scene where Jake and Neytiri make love by joining their hair strands together. Which is the same way that they "ride" the animals, prompting many people to point that they are in fact "joining" with the animals in a sexual manner. :D

Though, its a movie that can be liken to racism and colonialism. You can take Pandora as Africa for instance, the natives leaving in harmony with their surroundings, until a white man came and considered them sub-class human beings, they raped and profiteered from the land, and claimed that in return they will give medical supplies and build roads. Any resistance was met with fire-power.
The amount of racial and colonial history in the movie is unmistakable.

I don't think James Cameron (white man) left the movie up for interpretation of that sorts :rolleyes: maybe if people got rid of this inane notion, there wouldn't be racism, at ALL.
Btw News24 they didnt claim to give medicine nor roads, they DID.
You're making the white man of colonial-era to be very evil ~ They were not. What we might perceive as unjust now was the norms back then.

Hollywood - the original intellectual property thieves. Hollywood co's went into the movie making business there because California did not have a patent/copyright treaty with the East Coast. Edison's cameras were being used or copied by Hollywood moguls from day one. Ok, off topic but these guys are hypocrites.

So what if they are. In James Cameron's imaginary world of Pandora this may very well be the norm. You have sexual intercourse with the dragon (horse) while you ride it. It is crazy by our standards but then again this film is so far fetched from any real science (eg low gravity world yet the natives are humanoid and stronger than people who evolved where everything is heavier).
Why would it be bestiality? They are aliens not humans - they are like the beasts they ride - if anything it is inter-species sex- but not bestiality since that involves humans as one of the species.
This movie is just a copy of Pocohantas, Mononoke, Dances with the Wolves, Final Fantasy Spirits Within and many other similar themed films.
Not forgetting that the world resembles the world of the Unreal game. In that game the aliens are called the Nali. Lol Na'vi and Nali.

The hippies seem to miss that making your audience identify with the protagonist is a key factor of good story telling. Target audience numero uno for any big budget Hollywood movie? White people. So you want to make a movie about the evils of colonialism and exploitation that will make lots of money? The main character is going to be white. Or Will Smith. Maybe. You've got to consider that white people aren't going to want to see a fictional story where they only play the bad guys. I guess the message from the lefties is, if you want tell stories about the wrongs of racism don't try do it in a way that will offend anyone (anyone except able bodied, heterosexual, christian white people I mean) or make people want to watch it. The days of good story telling is over. They tolerated the obvious racist overtones of Planet of the Apes and LOTR, but enoughs enough.

wouldn't it make sense then to grow larger and heavier to stay down. Under water things grow larger because they're weightless. If they were the same size as humans then their strength would be weird unless their muscles are more efficient then mammal muscle like bird and reptile muscle.

I don't remember everything in the movie word for word. But that skinny dude who was in charge did mention medicine supplies and building roads.:p
