If you left neotel , what alternative did you choose.

Any better deals than Neotel(10GB) out there?(price & data)
And what about the speeds , in my case I'd say my Neotel average speed is 30 KB/s.
Will Neotel network improve?

4MB DSL + 10 GB Afrihost == 849 per month and I get a voice line

And with afrihost 14.50 per gig topup special it rocks!

NeoFlex 10G + Lite Phone == 799 so for 50 bucks more I get more!

Will they improve? Ofcourse they will, when is the question tho!
 
That's good.What do you mean by the Lite Phone ,I only use neoflex data(R699) , so the Afrihost deal is R150 more.

What are your download speeds?Are they 150 Kilobytes/s on average with 4Mb line?
What about uptime , because on neotel sometimes you get 10 minute to few hours dead connection.
Also , i forgot to ask , what do you miss after leaving Neotel?
 
i did leave neotel and chose telkom. for internet.

for phone calls i would probably choose Neotel, in fact i still have the phone, just no data anymore cause i didnt want to be admitted to a mental asylum.

The best thing about ADSL is that speeds dont' vary much so I no longer think of average speed. I always get about 440kBytes/s.

I kept my ADSL while I was with Neotel (384kbps speed) and in all that time (17 months), I've had 2 ADSL faults culminating in a total downtime of less than 16 hours.

Also , i forgot to ask , what do you miss after leaving Neotel?

The only thing I miss is mobility. It was useful to be able to use Neotel when visiting friends/family or at work. In every other way (including value for money), ADSL kicks the pooh out of any wireless solution.

After reading about the improvements in Telkom ADSL, I will be going to Telkom for my internet later this year. I will switch over to Neotel Lite for Voice calls as Telkom is just too expensive for those 3 second cell phone calls the Wife and Nanny tend to make.

I got my Connection installed yesterday, lets just say, my downloads where going pretty much FULL throttle on my 4Mb line.
NEVER had a 436kB/s download on Neotel.

So much of freedom, and beside a 2min international downtime last night, eveything was 100%! Neotel lost connection constantly, was easier to calculate up time as apposed to down time.

I pretty much have the same setup as jeanres, also using Afrihost, and boy Am I Pleased!!!

I miss having them charge me, $$$$$$'s cause i went over my cap, thanks to them not having a usage tracker. I think we deserve a refund!

If you can't compete on speed or reliability... you should be competing on price. At the moment... that's just not the case. At my office (or home), why should I care if my line is fixed or not? I do care about a reliable, affordable service. WiMax could be your saving grace here... we know that technology is stable. You guys just charge too much for it to convince us away from ADSL. Now with the 8Mb increases for the same cost, how could we even consider touching Prime / Lite or flex? It took me more than a year of terrible Prime connectivity before we canceled (still have the antenna on the roof). I think there is an ever increasing market base or users with bad experiences with Neotel. You guys need some good press... which means you need to do something good... and you need to do it soon. I think you know that though.
 
Cancelling my neoflex as well today and sticking with my tried and trusted adsl also using the afrihost 10 gig package with no issues so far.
 
I believe this is my first post in these forums (sad 2 say as I've been visiting this site for last 3 years).....anyway howzit!

I've been on Neotel's NeoConnect Prime 15G since May last year. Decent speeds, but like almost every other Neotel subscriber, the drop in connection has been unbearable. I remember some time back when I was downloading Win7 beta, the connection dropped after downloading 1.7GB....and the server I was downloading from didnt support resuming, strangely enough.

My slight relief came three months ago when I bought the Dovado UMR, which did attempt to automatically re-establish connection when it did drop, as well as getting the Neotel Antenna Kit from Poynting to boost my signal. Overall a slight improvement - nothing magical. Certainly not worth forking out the extra ZAR for functionality and service that should've been provided out of the box!

@jeanres - I dont seem to see a 4Mbps all-in-one package on Afrihost @ R849. please could u advise

Please tell us what we should compare it to then Hugo. The core importance to consumers are reliability, stability, consistency and speed. All of which Neotel is failing at right now and have been for 90% of our contract period up till now. I would much rather have a 384k line from Telkom that downloads at a constant 40Kb/s with little downtime and an accurate bill at the end of every month.

Where do you come with this BS.
Radio as last mile can be as good as copper if done correctly.
In fact many interlinks of exchanges use MICROWAVE which is NOT copper

Neotels problems have come in because they have setup their network in a crap way and badly underprovided.
Don't blame the technology when people are incompetent
