well.. you gotta have lots of money first to be able to buy the gold. Then you walk into one of those ring shop places and ask them for all the golden rings and chains they have available. You then hand over the the money and they hand over the loot. You walk back to your car and stop at a robot. Two guys with guns then come to your door and tell you to get out or you'll ******* die. They take you car along with all your gold.

It all started with a new alt. I was busy mining some ohle copper ore and had no need for the buggers. Went to the AH and saw none, so I put them up for 40g bid and 80g buyout per stack of 20. 10 Minutes later I had some gold in my mail box waiting. My eyes went 0_0 and thats when I realized you can literally take ANYTHING in this game and sell it for a LOT of gold. Kaching!

I used to make 10 000 gold a week by spending 2 hours a day. I then sold the gold to guildies. Heh. If you know how, it's easy. I will never tell you my secrets though.

havin almost all of the professions help (me no have no skinner and leather worker) alchemy and jc works nicely for a alt you can prospect ore and transmute the gems to epic one's and make 100g+ day. You can also cut the gems and make 150g+ per gem but uncut gems are easyer to sell

he rerolled engineering to make a mailbox next to the ah,so he buys uncut gems and sell them to ah ,he does that all day long lol'
hes also the only guy on the server with all the epic gems cut on the first day when it went live,he n=bought 20k tita ore to prospect

The first thing you need to do is get to lvl 80, if you arnt there already. This should be your priority.
Alchemy and jewelcrafting are good. There will always be a demand for flasks and epic gems. Alchemy compliments Jewelcrafting nicely because you can transmute gems with alchemy. However, dont have both on same character. It will cost you gold in getting mats.
Your main should do at least one of the gathering proffs. Doing mining and herbalism on same character is a bit akward since you cant track both herbs and ore at the same time.
If I had to choose, I would probably do alchemy/herbs first, then get an alt with jewelcrafting/mining to lvl 80( or at least 75) to do the jewelcrafting daily's in Dalaran and to be able to fly in Northrend to mine ore.
And NEVER buy gear on the AH. Ever. Waste of money. Your gear is in dungeons(or with emblems)

I doubt he made 500k gold using this method alone. There is only a limited demand. Unless he had an army of alts who transmuted gems every day, I call BS. I could imagine his turnover being pretty high however.
A quick calculation:
On my realm, the yellow uncut gems sell for roughly 135 gold each and a cut gem sells for 175 gold. That means he makes a 31.25gold profit (remember to take off the AH cut, which in this case is 8.75 gold) from each sale if he bought the uncut gem off the AH. He would have had to sell 16,000 gems to make a profit of 500 000 gold in a stable market. I have not even taken into account the amount of gold lost from unsold items.
In an ideal market where there is no undercutting, at a stretch, it sounds possible. I still doubt it though.

Probably the dumbest reason to take up a prof, which is probably also the last prof you should take if making money is your goal. That portable mailbox despawns after 10 mins and has a 2hour cd (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40768)
A lot cheaper to run a couple of yards. The AH in Stormwind and Undercity have a mailbox real close the auctioneers.

I have inscription at the moment on an alt and people go insane when i put inks on the AH. They sell like hotcakes.
I heard about this but I think its one of those internet myths. You have to be within 5 yards(??) to interact with any npc/mailbox, and the mailboxes which are close are outside, around the corner, and thus out of line-of-sight

I've recently rerolled horde on a different server, but my ally rogue made a ton of gold just crafting LW items, like the Ice Striker's Cloak - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43566
I made loads of them and sold them for around 350-450g. Even if you buy most of the reagents, you can make a lot of profit.
Also, it's amazing how much gold you can make by just doing a few dailies, I usually just do the ones from the Tournament Grounds which are close to each other, 20min for about 6 dailies, and around 100g all in.

I started making a "daily gold count" type of diary thing on the guild forums. I only did my first day as my guild asked me to take it down. I think they were jealous or somethin.

your kiding me right? u canot use that as a ref to how much money u truelymake, if i log on now send myself 5 k gold it jumps to 2371847907481 thousand per hour, then i afk a while and end up on X amount per hour.
my point is saying u make X amount of gold per hour is your word only, no proove of it, profit per hour is false as it doesnt show exact details and times and how long u have been logged on ect.
So for people that actually wanna be helpfull to the people who strugle to make gold how about writing a proper post about it instead of trying to say.. " oh look i have so much gold and its so easy to make"
So from my side to help the people who struggle with gold there are many diff ways and it all depends on your action house on your realm, u should also check prices on allie and horde action houses and compare them.
if u transfer items from horde to allies via the nutral AH's u can do it pretty much free apart from the 30 copper mail cost per item, but if you transfer money u loose about 20 % of the money ( aka selling a grey item for 10 k gold so you can buy it with a dif char transfering money u will loose 2 k gold) also note u need 2 accounts or have a friend help u to do this as u cant bid/buyout your own acutions
So to get down to making the money there are also varius ways, some people prefer grinding some people prefer daily quests , some people prefer dungeon farming, and some people play the AH and lastly professions. ( there is also a GDKP system on some servers but not everyone knows about it)
Wich ever method u enjoy u can make money with, but for me combining the AH with any of the others would be the most profitable way to go.
Getting a addon like auctioneer can help greatly as it save prices and lets u know if things are cheaper then what they usually are, Buying items at low cost and reselling the same item can be profitable and thats one way to go for it, another is buying for example epic gems, cutting them if your a jcer or getting them cut by a friend and then selling them for a steeper price, Again this all depends on the realms' AH
For the moment i feel gems are the most easily to come by and easiet way to make gold for the standard guy that dont play all day, u can buy gems with badges and honor , but note when buying them with badges buy the purple orange and Not green gem instead of the pure red blue and yellow.
On my server purple and orange uncut sells for the same as red blue and yellow. but the green ones are utter crap,
So playing the AH is usually the best and the gem cutting is only one example, u can do the same with buying herbs off ah and selling made flasks, all depends on your server prices.
We have a guy in trade that spams in trade for 1 min or so ever hour buy X , Y and Z items for X,Y and Z prices and please COD it to me and logs off. as he buys it in bulk of thousands of gold he gets them cheaper from sources he has gatherd over the years/months ect. he makes items from the mats and puts them on ah and makes a killing.
