TO whom it may concern

1 - I am wondering if it is possible to hide my mobile number when I am
sending an sms to someone that I don't want to give my mobile number
to.
2 - is it possible for the sms to reflect a office instead of my mobile number.

Nope u cant.

I suggest calming down and not sending whatever message you know you will regret later.
 
you can. but use another person's phone ;)

aah, yes that was back in the days when we werent all nigerian criminals though...

now u need RICA to activate it, so to rephrase its...

Go to pick and pay. buy a 99c starter pack, buy a R5 recharge voucher. Show her your ID book, proof of residents and color of your underwear. Wait 1hr while they sit on hold waiting for a call center person to answer. Wait another 10mins for them to figure out why the system is not working. Get approved, leave. Put sim card in phone. Find out the network billing is down and wont load your R5 recharge voucher...

Pretty simple really, depending on the phone you use (the newer phones are easier).

PK might be the guru. But if he finds a way to get the phone's API to strap another mobile number to an outgoing SMS using GSM standard im gonna be really interested in this one....

Did not have to go through that the last time I bought a starter pack (few weeks ago). Then again, the pick and pay was just lazy.

Still, Rica is not the problem, he just wants a fairly anonymous number. I hope he does not plan to do something illegal with his "unknown" number.

Also, using a second sim does not really protect you, vodascum can see the unique code that every phone has, and trace that extra starter pack back to you.

Log onto vodacom4me and you will see a history of the phones you used :D
 
This is work related and our clients telephone line is down hence they want me to send them information via sms and I am hesitant as I do standby and they will call me at godly hours if they have my mobile number.
My handset is a Sony Ericcson Pi1. It is all above board.

I wish problem is I am between companies at the mo and the standby phone is issued when you go on standby and I am not on standby, I am currently on Leave but dealing with a urgent issue.
 
I work for a WASP and here are the facts:

No South African Network will allow you to manipulate the sender from MSISDN in a text message !!!!!


The only solution is to use a non-South African bulk SMS carrier that has this feature using an app or web/wap.

Also you run the risk that the SMS will be blocked by Vodacom anyway. Its in their policy that they do not pass on SMS with manipulated numbers.
