I am having a weird interference issue with my Nokia 6710 Navigator that I got from Autopage last month, and wanted to take it in to a Vodacare repair center.

After filling in all the forms, I was informed by the repair desk agent that they do not service handsets supplied by Autopage and Nashua Mobile.

Anyone have an explanation for this? I thought Vodacom guranteed all their phones for two years, regardless of who the SP is?

Vodacare only repairs handsets supplied by Vodacom Service Provider Company (Vodashops, 4U Store's, Chatz Cellular Stores). Nashua and Autopage have their own stock and own repair procedures. When I for example try to book a phone into the Vodacare system and the IMEI is not found on the VSP database, it wont allow be to continue with the booking.

Please contact Autopage regarding the repair on your handset.

Thanks for the info.

Will see if they can sort it out. Seems like a very complicated issue, and from previous experience I can tell you Autopage is not likely to diagnose this problem correctly.

The phone randomly picks up GSM interference in random places, so loud that I cannot hear the person who I am speaking to, and they cannot hear me. If I lock the phone to the 3G network only, this does not happen. Unfortunately though the 3G reception is very poor in this area - not even one bar - which means locking it down on the 3G network is not an option.

Bleh.

Give them gas - and I do hope you succeed.

Chances are they'll send the phone in for repairs. Make a note of the IMEI, serial number and all that. And do take a couple of photographs of your phone.

Sorry I can not help you more with this issue roadrunner. But that is unfortunately the situation. Just as we dont deal with Autopage and Nashua accounts, we also do not handle repairs on their issued phones. Vodacare is a VSP affiliated company (not sure if that is the right term) and therefore VSP customers are the only ones serviced to ensure better turn around times etc.

I do hope you come right and your phone gets sorted.

Thanks man.

I dealt with Vodacare numerous times in the past, and they were always top notch.

Not sure if it's possible but can you not take it directly to Nokia?

Yes he could. The general rule is that the 1st year warranty is carried by the manufacturer, and the 2nd by Vodacom/SP's service centres.

Not sure where Nokia is based nowadays, but there is a Nokia outlet in Vodaworld.

Vodacare only returns handsets supplied by Vodacom Service Provider Company stating that it was liquid damage.... Nashua and Autopage customers are somehow less prone to drop their handsets in the fish pond.

I do a lot of bookings for repairs for my corp clients and seldom get a water damage report back.

corporate clients are different to the man on the street
if they decide to move accounts because of the "water damage' excuse the potential losses can be big
im not saying this is the case, but im sure they do get better service

I recently bought a cheap Nokia for someone who had to have a phone immediately. Fifteen minutes later, during a call, the phone stopped working. we walked back to the Vodacare Customer Care (sic) shop where the phone was bought. Amazingly enough, a technician established within a few minutes that the phone had "water damage"... Creating a scene resulted in a new phone changing hands...

@ Rodga. Trust me, corp handsets go through the same booking process, same techinicians etc. I have tried to get a repair done faster for one of my clients by ARC...they would not budge. There is a q and first come first serve. If it is due to user damage, Vodacare will quote as they would for any other client.

@Anton. That is very very peculiar! I have had a good amount of phones returned to me by my clients due to the handset being faulty out of the box (OBF). As long as the handset is returned within 7 days inside the box, no sign of physical damage etc and all accessories included by you, then there should not be a problem. This has been my experience. I have now been working in this business and if I remember correctly, I have only had 3 OBF's rejected by Vodacare.
