Right, never played PC games online before. I want to start but want to know what games should I buy. I don't want to play MMORPG's. More into Sport, racing and action games. So what games are there in those categories that I can compete online and with local cap i.e local servers? Got some Extra cash from my sister overseas and would like to use the money for good games and get my moneys worth. Got a good PC, got internet, why waste it. :D

Local cap or local servers? Because it's very hard to play on local servers without needing international cap.

I would suggest getting Modern Warfare 2. Adictive as crack and huge local online following, but it uses some international bandwidth.

OK, but how much international bandwidth. I have 3gig a month. I was thinking the Local servers use local bandwidth, because then I'll have 30gig. Will get Modern Warfare 2 though.

Get left 4 dead 2! culling zombies is always fun. There's counter-strike (i dont recommend), team fortress 2 and quite a few others. have a look over at games.saix.net , they got a list of hosted servers.

* Call of Duty 4
* Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
* Battlefield Bad Company 2

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. But I see all of them are FPS. Is that all people are playing? What about other genres? I like a little variety.

I'd say hold out on the MW2. I get so P!$$'d off waiting for games. IW.net is failing BADLY. Wait for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to come out. Apparently that's gonna be a HUGE hit.

Left 4 dead 2 is a lot of fun but you will need inti cap for it.And there is also quake live which is free:)

What sort of games are you into? There's also a reasonable online racing community.

Strategy games are quite nice in that you don't HAVE to play against other South Africans - the latency in an international RTS game is usually bearable. There is, however, a bunch of South Africans playing Age of Empires 2 again, for some reason... If you're into that. :p

Quake Live, Left 4 Dead 2, Bad Company 2, Team Fortress 2, Track Mania Nations. In terms of sports and racing games its difficult to find South Africans to play against. I think DiRT 2 is online-ready and you can just set up a lobby and play with people from the DiRT group (if it still exists).

I like Racing, sport and action games. Sometimes I like a RTS but I doubt I will play AoE2 again:D although I never played it online.

FPS are obviously cool as well but sometimes a change of pace sometimes is nice.

Thanks for the suggestions. Pity that sports titles are not so popular in SA. Actually though, if I have to play international it's fine. Also TMN doesn't appeal much to me. How much of my cap will I be using in say a 4 hour session of playing in a night. I mean will 3gig be enough for the month, I will really only be able to play on weekends.

MW2 sucks for multiplayer in south africa, I suggest call of duty 4, this you can play on local, huge community, and lots of servers, cod5 I think need international? here are the games WebAfrica hosts www.wage.co.za

Sorry, no idea what AoK stands for. Just call me thick. But thanks for the invite.
