What is the Neo Africa Trie Series rugby tournament all about?

Think they just spotted a marketing gap and took it.
Basically it is just warm-up games for the Super 14.

And I'd be rather concerned if I was a supporter of a team that was not partaking in these warm up games... these new rules will take some game time to get used to!
 
Cheetah updates also confirms that they are struggling with some of the new rules.
They had more practice sessions and games today and Naka was worried about the amount of penalties at the breakdown and scrums. 2 areas where the Cheetahs' game plan revolves around.

Actually it is not so much new rules but more stringent enforcement of rules that have always existed but refs have been lenient on.

The big one is the tackle. The tackler must now totally release the tackled player AND the ball before getting to their feet and contesting. Pretty much I think Aus and NZ were getting peeved that we now had one of the best stealers in the game and decided they now needed to get rules enforced to make sure we stop winning. Notice how the rules seems to change whenever we win something (world cup, trinations).

The other is players moving towards the ball when it is kicked ahead. You now cannot move an inch in the direction of the ball otherwise you will get penalised. The refs used to only really apply this if you were within 10m and used to be lenient in other cases.

These are the changes I have picked up so far. They have resulted in a lot of penalties in the warm up matches.
 
Not sure lance, how much of a F up would it be if some of your top players get injured.


Naaaa let them rather get injured in games that matter.
 
For the Sharks this was a nasty wake up call! :( Hopefully the lessons have been learnt.

Nice start for the Stormers. Is this their season? :)
 
The rules seem to be aimed at the springboks strengths ie stealing the ball and the high ball. We will see a lot of penalties this season, the winner of the competition will most likely be the team that will adapt to the new rules the fastest.

I personally don't think the new rules do anything to better the game from a spectators point of view, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

Well for a start... these are not new laws - no where near. The players just never applied it, and now they will be forced and now they don't know what to do.

The effect this will have should be good if all teams have a positive approach to this and make it their mission to play according to the law. The ball should become available more easily and quicker and both teams should now be able to properly contest for the ball. If the ball emerges quicker from a set piece, you've got more opportunity to try things which should result in a better showpiece.

This will however only happen if the teams have a positive attitude towards applying this and actually wanting to do it.

And another thing. Rugby doesn't have rules, it's got Laws...
