Hi All today i was in Musica and saw Lotro SOA gold edition for only R80 so i brought it as the game seems very
promising and a good change from Wow and i am a huge Lotr fan, but the problem is i got home installed the game
to version 1.04 apparently which is extremely low patched and i need to download something crazy like 7gbs of patches which is
a bit much for me... :wtf:

If anyone Pls In Cape Town Area has the latest version of the game could they please contact me ill bring a cd
or whatever you need to copy it for me, but any help will be extremely appreciated :)

A little bit off topic, sorry. Do you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to play the game, and how much is it. Thanks.

I Believe is is Aprox 15$ per month and 30$ per 3 months slightly less then world of warcraft as it costs 15$ per month and 40 $ per 3 months :) hope this helps and srsly im sure someone here in Cpt plays ;( if not does anyone know local links for the patches :)?

Yea, same Sub as with WoW. But if you buy the Gold Edition [the one you get in the shops usually are] you get 45 days free .

Also busy patching my client from 1.04 , pretty annoying, good thing i got uncapped, but still taking me -days- to get it patched up. I can see why the LOTRO box goes for R80 [i paid R99 at BTGames] , because it's literally just the key, you might as well download the client from the website in full.

The problem is, they sell the original of LOTRO in the shops. Meantime LOTRO has had 2 expansions already and whether you bought the expansions or not, your client need to be patched all the way. Basically like buying WoW-vanilla, it will still patch you all the way to WOTLK.

As for expensive, not really, $15 a month is cheap if you play the game full time. If i don't play a MMO, i buy a game a month = R400 right there.

I won't deny, Guildwars is a pretty good deal overall these days, however it can't compare to LOTRO. Guildwars is a instanced PvP game with some PvE "on the side", LOTRO is full on PvE with some PvP on the side. So if you want a good immersive world + questing experience LOTRO will beat Guildwars by far, if you want a casual "do some stuff, maybe quest a little, maybe arena a little" then guildwars is for you.

Im just gonna have to wait until i get lucky or find some local links, not really wanting to cap my telkom account, but the game does seem very promising and more adventure along with a better atmosphere of exploration than wow.

On a side note to do with pricing of the sub. MMO games are one of the few things that are always different and never boring and if you are indeed an intense gamer you are likely to buy at least 1 new game every 2 months which probably is not as entertaining and lasts about a week before beating it aprox. the same price of the sub.

The only international online games that are most playable with the latency issues we have are MMOs and if you have spare time and like being in your own world for of adventure why not :) i hope this helps anyones choice of playing wow or lotro

I have to agree that LOTRO would be awesome, I can just imagine how it is to be in middle-earth (or well the fake one), but nonetheless, the setting and overall plot of what LOTRO is set on is just plain awesome. Tolkien was a genius...
It is just crappy that you have to pay each month. Isn't there something like a pay once for lifetime subscription?

Hi

MY 2 cents worth of LOTRO. Forget about playing it on the EU servers, play it on the US servers. I played on both and I must say you get much better deals
from the US servers like the Lifetime Subscription of $199-00. The game bundle deals are also alot cheaper than the EU ones. The US server website has much more functionality then the EU one.

I love it on the US servers, the EU servers felt lame. (The EU client does not work on US client and vice versa)

Maybe I can help you out with a US Client, its big +- 12GB. You can try it out free on 14 days trial.

BTW the game gets better the higher your character level. More stuff to do and explore.

ye like wow with higher level being better but the problem is my client i have now is EU with 45 days free and the other stuff ( the gold edition) + the other thing to remember is US time is much different from ours. So maybe i should be more specific I Need help patching from the eu version (1.04atm) either by someone being able to give me the EU client in CPT or help finding local links for the patches as i said before all help is welcome :)

Yea, sucks to need different clients for EU/US. I also got the 45 day EU thing, so i guess i will stick it out on the EU servers.

Anyhow, i'm in centurion, and will eventually have my client patched up, can always consider mailing it.

Well let me know when your patched up if i cant find another solution maybe we can arrange something ill ofc pay mailing and a bit more for your time thanks :)

I have one LOTRO 60 Day Time Card for the European Servers (EU) for R130-00 that's up forsale.

It's a bargain for that price if anyone want it.

Oh my hell, i thought you were kidding about the 7GB of updates. Anyway, took me the whole week (384kbps line), but looks like my LOTRO client finally decided it's updated. Will see tonight if i can actually play.

The final installed client looks to be about 13GB.

I wonder if these retail stores even know what exactly they are selling, very few in this country can afford 7GB+ of updates. Must say my uncapped account is certainly coming in handy.

Well first impressions, the environment looks amazing, great graphics, swaying trees, sunsets all of it like you'd expect from watching the movies :).

The combat though is slow, very slow..in fact the entire game feels a little slow (not FPS, just how fast things progress) . So you need to put on your relax-and-wander-around hat, not your "kill-kill-kill-next-level-kill-kill-kill hat. It's definitely slower than WoW. Maybe later on things are faster, dunno, but don't expect an "adrenaline rush" :).

I must say i do like the "epic quest" thing the game has, basically like a big story-line you follow as you level. It has the chapters and little movie clips with some story telling like you get in single player games. Only Age of Conan have i seen something similar. Most other MMOs (including WoW), just have an intro and well that's that, then you just level with the mini quests, there's no "overarching" story you continously get back to like Aoc/Lotro seem to have.

sounds pretty cool cus with wow you just can easily completely forget the story line and it takes every the adventure atmosphere a cool rpg should give, im gonna see if i get get the patches from the next OC here and probably try it out and one more thing wats the latency like?
