NeoConnect Lite awarded product of the year 2009

NeoConnect Lite Voice product

Their data product will only win 1 award... for being the most useless product in SA.

Makes you think doesn't it, if it gets the award for consumer product, then there is more right than you think.

Oh PuLeeeeeeeeez...

Who in the world actually dreams this up?

What in the name of all that is good is this world coming to?

With tears in my eyes, this I ask....

Indeed... next we will hear about iBurst's floor-sweeping customer service provider of the year award!

That really made my day! Is it possible that they were the only entrants?

All you have to do is read up about how these "awards" are done.

You have to submit your product, and if you get "shortlisted" you have to cough up some money and if you "win" then you cough up some more.

The research may be done correctly but the fact that you have to buy your way in means that only companies that have the money and want to get involved in this farce can stand a chance of winning.

I wonder if there were any other entrants.

The methodology is here. Fatally flawed if you ask me...

LoL

A farce indeed - I think the SAMA's (South African Music Awards) are run in the same way.
Artists or record companies have to pay for their music to be screened for nominations.

This is a sick joke!

Here are the costs...

Is that Good Value?

The average increase in sales, in the UK, is 10-15%

So, NeoFail shat R185000 ZAR to win, I wonder how much they have spent on developing their bandwidth usage monitor!

What other products did they compete against?

Here it would seem, from the Product of the Year rip-off site...

Shower gel
Instant glue
Hair dye
Pasta sauce
Pizza

:wtf:

Anyhow, I am sure ALL of the above would give you a more consistent, better internet connection than anything NoTel has to offer!
Just ask gdiza for his indorcement !

Well, in defence of the piece of crap....

I have one. According to the voice coverage I needed an antenna, but it worked right out of the box. Other than my flex it does what it is supposed to on 1 to 2 bars of signal. It is portable. We carry it around the house like a cellphone. Some days the family gets called from our bedroom and other days it is functioning as my office line.

But it is sometimes, like my Flex, off for a day, the voice quality sucks, the speaker phone function cannot be activated while in a call (you need to decide beforehand to go handsfree) and sometimes it disconnects after 3 minutes into the call. I also plugged it into the yagi antenna. Then I get full signal, voice Q improves slightly, but it still cuts out. You cannot plug a fax machine into it. So if you only want to make very short calls, not worried about long disconnections, have very good ears then this is the phone for you.

Would I give it the award of the year? Hell, no!
Is it functional? Yes.
Would I recommend it? Yes, like I would recommend cactus juice as a water replacement, when lost in the desert.

What worries me the most is that if this phone won the award then just how bad are the other handsets/services???!!!???

BTW, when I signed up for the R99pm contract I had to pay R600 for my device and they told me that I get a R25 rebate pm on calls/data/SMS usage. Nothing. I get billed full for everything

Well admittedly in the "what new consumer telecoms products came out in 2009" category, nothing actually happened other than Neotel. Did any other company release or do something? Telkom did nothing, Vodacom/MTN/iBurst also all did jack squat (yes we are STILL paying R2 p/MB). Some might have shoveled their existing products a little (all resulting in massive problems to consumers instead) , but ultimately nothing new happened in telecoms consumer products specifically [correct me if i'm wrong].

Going up against shower gel and instant glue... if those are all verimark products, then i guess neotel has to eventually win something.
