Nokia Ovi Maps sees 1.4 million downloads since release

I downloaded the new Ovi maps with free navigation and it is brilliant. Not only does is talk Afrikaans to me, kwaai tannie Magda likes telling me to "Maak 'n U draai", but it also has accurate maps for small towns like Veldrif and places you probably never would go to. Previously I used Garmin Mobile XT on my phone but now I can see any reason to use something other than Ovi.

This is really something other manufacturers are lacking in - not even the holy iPhone comes with such details maps and voice navigation in your home language.

With phones like the N97 around I see no use for an e-series. Switching from E90 to N97 is a dream.

I downloaded the maps to my 5800, but it says navigation license expired????

Am I missing something or is there a catch to this free navigation?

Hi Derek

I downloaded and updated with the map loader.

It says version 3.01.09wk26b1
Map version 0.1.23.112

If there is something else I must update I would appreciate the advice.
Thx

Before you install the Ovi .sis, first go to your app manager and un-install all instances of Nokia/Ovia maps. Then reboot and install the new app.

Cool done that thx.
Now have version3.03 10wk01 b05 on

Seems to be working.

DO I need to instal the SA maps using the Nokia map loader now, or do I leave it like it is?

Seems to be using quite a bit of data downloading locations.

Thx for the help

Since the maps are already on your storage, I suppose Ovi maps will automatically pick it up. If your want voice navigation, download and install with map loader. Tip: For text-to-speech street names, options/settings/navigation/drive guidance/English (UK) - with street names. Only available on-device OTA, not in map loader

Cool, thx folks, got it grafting.
Only used a few megs in the beginning but now all is back to normal.

And to think I almost bought gps software yesterday hehehe.

:D
