New Bridge Camera: Fuji HS10 (30 X Optical Zoom)

I wanted to say, "Yes, but how wide can it go?". Then I read that it can actually go wide angle too. I found with my old super zoom that there was more times that I wanted to go wider, than there was times that I wanted more zoom. Looks like a good camera, if a "bridge camera" is what you are looking for.
 
Lets wait and see how it performs. I'm think barrel/pincushion distortion, chromatic aberrations etc

It's very hard to make a good lense with that type of range.

Hopefully it performs well though ;)

They ain't come cheap QT, they over the R4000 mark, and people that want these camera's want a camera that can do the work of a HD video recorder and a good quality zoom camera without having to carry the extra bulk of a camera and lenses. These camera's are far lighter than your average DSLR. It's kind of a beginners DSLR.

That is cheap to me. D3000/1000D with two lenses is about double the price and won't give you that range... although zoom is not that important, unless you are doing wildlife or sport photography.
 
Well I was battling to make a choice between a entry level DSLR or a top of the range super zoom, the entry DSLR can only shoot good quality photo's without good quality HD video's @ a price of R4599 for a 1000D but on the other hand the super zoom gives you good quality shots and over that top HD video's like a top of the range DSLR @ R4299, so my choice was made as a beginner photographer.

Yes, if you don't need anything more than 100mm or so those superzooms will do fine.
 
With so much room to play with why put such a teeny tiny sensor in it? :confused:

Bigger Sensor = Bigger Lens : No Free Lunch!
At 30x the lens would have to be HUGE with a bigger sensor.... and at the end of the day this is still a bridge camera.

Just because you can do something it doesnt necessarily make it a good idea and IMO sacrificing IQ to put such a long zoom on a camera like this falls under that category.

Well the masses will swallow this just as eagerly as they do with mega pixels. Did you not know that more is better? :D
 
Impressive ! It is still a bit pricey if you compare it to the cheapest bridge cameras like the Z-range from Kodak. I do not think image quality will be a problem, the noise reduction and image processing routines/chips that these cameras use have become more advance over the years.
 
Thanx for the reply Rouxenator and SA Camera is an excellent shop to buy your camera's, I'll recommend them to anyone. I bought my Panasonic FZ35 from them in Dec '09. Service is good & fast.

Yeah SA Camera is very good when it comes to customer support. I bought a Canon A460 there long time ago and it was a fast and friendly deal. They also took back two Canon S5 cameras that had dead pixels on the sensor and refunded me instantly. That's round about the time I switched to Kodak ;)
 
The Kodak takes awesome shots Rouxenator, I've seen the photo's you've posted. Well it's my first go @ Panny but loving the camera, I also have a p&s Pentax which is reaching old age fast. After I am completely comfortable with the panny FZ35, I will then move on to DSLR, but only if I can master all the manual settings of the FZ35 camera. Happy shooting!!!
