HTC Magic to get HTC Sense UI in 3 weeks!!!

Hello.

I own a HTC magic from Vodacom. I was very excited to see that there was a update for HTC Magics, one that would install the Sense UI. When i tried to access it, it said it was not available for my device. Please can you also make it available for the Vodacom device. Please also let me know when we can expect to upgrade our OS.

I have been waiting for this for la long time!!!
 
Personally I'd rather have Android 2.1 :), but if this actually comes our way it's at least a step in the right direction. HTC just mustn't think that they can then wait another 7+ months before a real update.

Agreed, but at least we now (supposedly) know that we will receive updates roughly 3 weeks after a European ROM release.

I just hope this happens.
 
Hmmmm... yes... supposedly... since it was mid October last year when UK got 1.6 and we haven't seen anything from that. Call me cynical, but I'd have to see the "3 weeks later" update a few times before I begin to expect that. Inferring a generic time-line from a once off event is making quite an assumption, even if the first one pans out :)
 
Sweet, this is awesome news. Last I heard leaf was still humming and hawwing over whether we would be seeing this.

I dont think HTC knows what they talking about.....I phoned them twice today and mailed them and all 3 responses were the same. Here is the mail I got from them:

Good Day Jannie

Thank you for contacting HTC Support.

It has not been confirmed by Google South Africa if the HTC Magic will be Upgradable to Android 1.6
For more information please contact the Support Desk on 0861 44 5323.

I doubt we will ever see the 1.6 ROM for the Magic here in SA.
 
We probably will not see 1.6, but maybe 2.xx

The SenseUI that this thread refers to is on the 1.5 build.
 
I mailed leaf and received the following response:

Hi, when will the update for the Magic which includes Sense be made available to us? Also out of interest HTC announced yesterday that they are bringing Android 2.1 to the Hero, will this be available for the Magic as well? Thanks

Response from Leaf:

Thank you for contacting Leaf Support. We have received your email regarding firmware for the HTC Magic.

The latest available firmware version for the HTC Magic is version 1.5. There has been no confirmation for any later firmware versions for the African region in the near future.
To verify your device firmware version: Menu > Settings > About Phone.

The HTC Sense for the HTC Magic is currently undergoing network testing & should be available in the coming weeks.

Coming weeks? That's pretty vague, the release date in the OP suggests end of Feb latest. Probably gonna get my phone on Monday, I was hoping they'd release the update within the next week so I wouldnt lose too much customisation when i wiped the thing :( Hopefully they dont run too far behind schedule.
 
Heya. Are there any upgrades worth downloading for the Magic? Official ones I mean, not the "unnoficial" ones where i can totally screw up my phone.
 
So far there havent been any updates, although the one that the OP mentions will definitely be worth it.
 
Was also just about to bump this thread. Has anyone heard anything about this?
 
I was getting impatient so I emailed HTC support.... my question and reply is below.

Question:
Hi there, On the 15th February, I was told that the Sense UI update for the HTC magic would be available within 2/3 weeks. Has this update been released? Is there any new information as to where/when we can get this update? Many thanks

Thank you for contacting HTC support.

The software upgrade for the HTC magic has been approved by 2 service providers in south africa, we still waiting for others to approve the software and as soon as its been approved the software will be downloaded from www.leaf.co.za.
