Toyota SA is to recall 52,546 vehicles because of accelerator problems, the company's president said in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The recall would be limited to Toyota Corolla models from February 2007 to January 2010, Toyota Auris models from June 2006 to January 2010, and Toyota Verso models from October 2008 to January 2010.
The American auto industry took a bad knock in 2008-2009 - they nearly packed up, and now the media are really knocking Toyota about. Not much more to say, is there? These glitches have not proven critical, but Toyota's branding and quality reputation will take years to rebuild.
So, this what happens when you change your slogan from "Everything keeps going right" to "Lead the way":
Your vehicles start leading the way by going full speed on their own (the accelerator cable problem) and refusing to stop (the computer controlling the brakes).
The HiAce and other mini busses must also be recalled as they dont seem to be able to drive in a straight line. Must be something with the steering column.
There used to be a phrase "Jap crap" but the Japanese turned that around with their drive for quality control - or am I just remembering Back to the Future? "What do you mean, Doc, all the best stuff is made in Japan"
