Self importance and BLING - the blue light convoys is just an extension of this self importance.

Rwanda splurges on luxury jets

SA-registered company was set up to conceal ownership of aircraft - Anything for a "comrade".

The cash-strapped Rwandan government has splurged millions of rands on two ultra-luxury passenger jets to fly its president and VIPs around the world - and tried to hide ownership of the jets behind a South African-based company.

Rwanda is battling to rebuild its fragile economy after the 1994 genocide in which 800000 people were killed. The country is still dependent on international aid and donor funding.

The UN says 60% of Rwanda's mostly rural population live in poverty.

The pair of Bombardier Global Express BD-700 jets - with a new price tag of $50-million each - was acquired in 2003 and 2008, respectively.

Its just crazy and people and nations will continue to pour money into countries like Rwanda, thats the craziest part.

On Ross Kemp Pirates they interviewed a Nigerian governor in a palatial mansion while just down the road millions of people were living in their own sewage.

Last yearthere was no winner of the $5 million pay off for good behaviour for Africa's leaders...

Mo Ibrahim prize for African leadership will not be awarded this year

As someone said welcome to Africa and enjoy being butt farked by idiotic leaders who only think about today and what they get and care nothing for the future. There are no good African leaders simple as that. Africa is a total mess for one reason and mugabe type leaders are a prime example.

the worst thing about African leaders is they do not care for their own kind, i mean the way some black folk live while their government lives it up is rather shocking. I mean take countries like china and iran, the people still live wel. They may have rights and can be stoned for anything but they do not live in total poverty and like animals.

It's unique to africa isn't it. The jews weren't just oppressed in Germany, they don't still blame Germany. The indians in America, same thing. Aboriniginies in Australia. Everywhere people have been disadvantaged, but it's just in this place that they keep hammering on it. When O when will there be no more "previously disadvantaged" places. There are people that have been born after 1994, that are now finished with Matric.

I find it strange that certain black folks who drive top of the range SUV's, BM's etc etc often park them outside their shacks! If I were stinking rich and able to afford a bmw I would have my house sorted first BEFORE thinking of buying the bling wheels. They live in shacks but yet have the shiniest and most expensive cars and shoes that money can buy...

Blacks and whites have different priorities, this may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you look at it :p

Ive seen it first hand many times. Shacks with DSTV dishes too, never seen that before eh? When last did you drive through ANY township?

Think MetroFM also had this add with a brand new BMW, parked next to shack with the slogan, "if you're black, you'll understand" :wtf: ??? seems thats how even some black people see black people

if they were stereotyping blacks... would the ad then be aimed at the whites? we usually recognise stereotypes in other people, not ourselves, so that ad would have been massive fail then!

but i can give you another example, i live in a complex, and i'm on the corner garage, with 4 garages next to mine...

I'm the only "whitey" in that row of garages, i drive a 2004 Opel Astra, 150k + on the clock, basically FCKEDUP !!!, all 4 the other garages have a FORD Focus STI, a BMW 530d, a BMW 130d and lastly a Merc C class [all 4 cars at least 2007 models and up]

but out of the 5 of us, i'm the only one owning the apartment that i stay in, and the black guys are all renting [i know/hang out with a few of them]
 
Now and again I have to do work in Bhisho - all the "representatives of the poor" come streaming in driving Merc compressors, BMW 4x4's - saw a Merc GL last week with a huge rusted dent in it, was funny.

Then they all hit the road at 4pm to go back to East London - and drive like arrogant little children, two weeks back this idiot in a GTI comes flying past in the wet and spins out, complete 360 and collides with another car pushing it into the barrier - a mom and two small kids (all where wearing seat belts) the ape then speeds off, we gave chase but he was too fast for my little Aveo - called the police and spoke to eish! told them to lookout but as usual nothing happened.

Certain people would rather drive a fancy car than send their kids to a decent school...
