ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema is a "jewel", Deputy Police Minister Fikile Mbalula told MPs on Monday.

Speaking in the National Assembly at the end of debate on last week's state-of-the-nation address, he suggested - to loud jeers from opposition benches - that other parties were jealous they did not have Malema as a member of their youth leagues.

Earlier, Mbalula said he welcomed the debate on nationalisation, provoked by Malema's remarks on the subject in past months.

"We must not be afraid of the debate on nationalisation... [It] is not a re-definition of any ANC policy; it is a debate which is raised by a youth organ of the [party].

We do understand your trauma, because you don't have youth organisations like ours... that is why the youth have crossed to the ANC. Malema is the only jewel that we have; he's the only thing that you don't have.

"That is why you are actually crying foul because you're jealous. Jealousy is the enemy of success," Mbalula said, suggesting Malema was in fact a "vibrant voice" within the ruling party.

His statements in the House were greeted with loud derisive cries and laughter from opposition party members.

Who wants to be the next secretary general of the ANC:whistle:

Yep, its happening. Soon Malema will be President. He is a Jewel, an eAfrican Jewel, a Blood Diamond jewel.

Like I said in the other thread....

... a person with no discretion is like a jewel in a pig's snout!

Malema is being used / manipulated by the ANC - I just haven't figured out why or to what end.

I'm pretty sure that neither have anything to do with him ever becoming president.

Why not? Could you see somebody like Zuma becoming pres in the glory days of the early 90s

Wait, there;s someone even more moronic than Malema? I need to get an autograph..

And in other news, prices of commodities such as jewels, have dropped after an announcement that Malema is a jewel. Said one interviewee, :"Eish, I can't believe I spent money on S H 1 T"..

If he is such a "Jewel" lets sell him off to China :) they are hungry for "Jewels"

When I heard that excerpt from the parliamentary kindergarten I nearly drove off the road I was laughing so hard. At least Jewel-ius has some uses.
