A man described by police as a "prominent member of the Vredendal community" has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy and for being in possession of child pornography.

The 49-year old man was due to appear in court today.

Police spokeswoman Captain Carin Loock said it was alleged the 15-year old had asked the man for money in front of a bank in Vredendal's central business district.

The man had then allegedly told the teen to wait for him and a few minutes later, he picked the 15-year-old up.

"The male suspect parked his vehicle near a farm where he sexually assaulted the 15-year-old victim.

"The suspect sped off in the direction of Vredendal after another vehicle approached them. The occupants of the vehicle then phoned the police who pulled off the suspicious vehicle."

Loock said the man had been taken in for questioning. Police had obtained a search warrant for his house and confiscated pornographic material, memory sticks and a cell phone

Eek. My mom lives in Vredendal. Small town on the west coast. Seems the pervs are everywhere. :mad:

Thats the sad thing about pervs. They blend into the community, nobody suspects a thing.
