MyGaming: Ubisoft’s new DRM requires always on internet

Yup that is the only way to combat to piracy.

Sadly people will blame ubisoft for this and go on about how bad and nasty they are but do not stop to think how much money they lose to piracy. Pc games are not really expensive and piracy is out of control within the pc game industry in my opinion.

Yep! The truth always hurts. its only the hackers and those supporting hacking that's against DRM, with the excuse they need to make a "few" backup copies of the original in case the backups of the backup copies also fails or get "lost".

Again there is this arugment about piracy vs monetary losses. If people are unable to pirate, then they will do without a particular game / song / movie / program, and look for free alternatives. They were never going to pay for a legit copy anyway, as they can't afford it, so saying that because they bought a pirate copy, the MAFIAA industry is losing money, is a huge falacy. If they stop piracy completely, I guarantee you that music / gaming / movie / software industry are not going to see massive increases in revenues and profits, the billions that they they talk of. People will just do without, and move onto other free alternatives. They were NEVER going to pay for such content in the first place, especially at the current ridiculously high prices, so piracy does NOT cause these industries to lose billions of dollars each year.

For e.g., I bought a PS3 because I was looking for a great gaming console. Now with new games sitting at the R700 mark, I just don't buy many new releases, if any at all. I buy 1-2 year old releases that are selling at R250 or less, or I buy 2nd hand games for much cheaper. If pirated games were available on the PS3, I guarantee you my games collection would have been quadruple it's current size. Not because I want to pirate per se, but because it is affordable, and it gives me choice, and I don't have to think twice everytime I want to buy a new game. Now if the movie / music / software / gaming industries can understand this simple fact, and start dropping prices dramatically, they will attract customers in droves, and make MORE PROFIT then they currently are...

It's a simple fact. Sad thing is these guys are just too greedy, too thick, and are intent on going backwards while the rest of the world is moving forward with the digital and information revolution...
 
The problem isn't so much the fact that DRM is used. It's the unnecessary inconvenience. Why does the game require an internet connection after the game starts up. Surely by then Ubisoft has verified that the copy is legal? Is allowing the user to disconnect from the internet once the game is in progress really opening doors for the pirates?

what if your caps finished how are you gonna play the game?
 
Ubisofts games are usually *** anyway and don't run nicely even with a good machine(IMO - besides FC2).

Only games worth playing/spending money on is online games :) don't even bother pirating single player games.
 
Guys i pirate so don't think that i am some anti pirate guy but there is no doubt in my mind pc game makers suffer from piracy. I have no problems pirating movies and mp3s, i go watch plenty movies and i am not paying 150-300 for a movie or 150 rand for a music cd with 1 real outstanding song.

Pc games on the other hand i feel get pirated far to much. Pc games are well priced and there is no problem with a pirating a game that only last 6 hours but the really outstanding games need to be bought and they do not get purchased. I am against piracy of pc games because 300 bucks is not bad for a game that is awesome. Sure if you have no money download it but most people have the money and still download it.

Why i am hating all the piracy with pc games is that now the game makers because piracy is so high are making games for console and porting them to pc, most new games are direct console ports which sucks. Nobody can tell me game makers are not losing money because they are. Music i don't think so a good albums sell by the millions, movies they rake in tons of cash at the box office but with pc games you barely get 2 millions sales while 10 million download nzb's and torrents if not 20m and you cannot tell me they over charge for a pc game.

Yea brawl i only buy online games as well, i never play single player games but the age of console gaming is fast approaching because there is no money to be made in pc games unless it is a good online game, the single player games get pirated so much it is not worth even developing single players games for pc anymore.

Wow did not even need libs flame suit :D.

The sad part is many if not most of those that can afford to purchase their own STILL pirate just because they can and/or it's still cheaper!

but xbox is like R800 a game? gotta have some really rich parents to maintain your gaming career:)
