Vodafone Live! APN

Hi guys.

I am currently trying out a 3G phone without VLive software loaded. Can someone perhaps supply me with the VLive APN and address? Want to see if I can access it using the browser on the phone.

Actually, it seems to connect OK, then it hangs while "LOADING"

1) VLive was created with specific handset models in mind to ensure proper rendering, file formats, etc. That's why you only get certain phones with Vlive! Using another phone might not work.

2) Your SIM needs to be provisioned (activated) on the VLive! APN, allowing you access to the VLife! portal.

erike, I suspect your SIM has not been provisioned.

I have tried 'vlive' as an APN and http://live.vodafone.com/ as the address, and it doesn't work. Everything is set up on my sim, because everything worked fine before I flashed my phone with Z800 firmware.

I knew that I probably would not be able to access Vodafone Live! after the upgrade, but it was a matter of weighing up the pro's against the con's, and Vodafone Live! was the only pro to the V800 firmware as far as I was concerned. I only flashed my phone's firmware, but did not unlock it, so it is still locked to the Vodacom network, which I have no problem with, as I have been a Vodacom customer for over 8 yrs and have no intention of changing any time soon.

It will be a real pity if there is no way to get this phone connected through Vodafone Live!, as I quite liked the news and video clips.

I'm going to get my v800 upgraded to a z800i. I can also do without vodafone live. It would definately be in vodacoms best interest though to allow z800's to connect because they charge for accessing most vodafone live content and the z800 must have the same browser and obviously identicle hardware to the v800.

I agree totally with you, would most definately be in their best interest. If you can live without Vodafone live! though, then you will definately NOT regret the firmware upgrade

I have managed to connect to Vodafone Live!, but since I am not in 3G coverage at the moment, I was sent to the GPRS WAP portal, but the thing is, it looked nothing like the GPRS WAP portal I remember from my V800 days.

If anyone with a Z800 wants to have a look, here are the settings...

Go to <Data Comm.> and create a new account with vlive as the APN and leave everything else as default. Save and exit.
Now go back to Connectivity menu and select <Internet settings> - <Internet profiles> and create a new profile with the following settings
-Connect using: vlive
-Internet mode: Http
-Use proxy: Yes
-Proxy address: 196.006.128.012
-Port number: 8080
-Username: <leave blank>
-Password: <leave blank>
Save profile, and make sure to select the new vlive profile. With this profile high-lighted, press 'More' (right soft-key), and select <Advanced> then <Change homepage>. Under 'Name' type Vodafone Live!, and under 'Address' type http://live.vodafone.com/
Save and exit.
Now when you go to your first icon on the 'Desktop', it should be named "Vodafone Live!", and by pressing it will take you to the homepage

I would like to get some feedback from ppl in 3G coverage area as to whether they get access to the normal 3G or GPRS portal. Also let me know if it is the same portal as accessed with V800 in GPRS coverage.

Another thing to mention though, which is a bit worrying, but would probably be solved by what Gambit suggested, is that while on the Vodaphone Live! portal I went to one of the pages with content and recieved this message:

@Vodacom3G, do you think that what Gambit suggested would be possible? As far as I can see it would be as simple as adding the Z800 to the list of supported handsets, since the Z800 & V800 ARE identical phones.
Do you perhaps know what Vodacom's standing is on Non-Vodafone Live! hansets? Do they only want to allow branded handsets to access the portal? If that is the case, then Vodacom is possibly losing out on alot of revenue from people without branded handsets, but with handsets that are supported.

When are we going to get Vlive access via our datacards?

I've upgraded my V800 to Z800i and I got vodafone live working on my handset but the vodafone live server obviously doesn't have a profile for it because the content is not style correctly for the browser. As I've mentioned before v800's and z800i's are identicle, it can't be too much of a mission to copy the v800 profile over to a z800i profile. Z800i's are now available in South Africa and vodacom would be dumb not to support it because nearly all vodafone live content has to be bought. Did you get anywhere with the product managers on this issue mr vodacom3g?

I've suggested to the product managers that we look at supporting non-vlive but identical phones on the portal.

There're some (non-technical) issues the guys are working through. Will keep you posted.

Its simple.If your phone does not have the Vodafone live software.Vodafone Live will not WORK or it will not WORK properly.Vodafone Live SA is still in its early stages. Alot of NEW and EXCLUSIVE content will be added to the Vodafone Live SA portal SOON

Well I have a V800 with VLive APN activated, I added the details on my wife's 6600, and inserted my sim in the 6600, guess what it connected to VLive! no problem.

I have no problems connecting to vodafone live with my now upgraded z800i, it just doesn't look right compared to what it used to look like when i had a v800.

Samsung Z500 Debranded + vlive working ok!

Just a quick note... I debranded my Z500 with software from http://www.samsungseriez.com , it now has proper Samsung menu's. Took me a while but I finally found the correct vlive apn settings on this site (woohooo!), and now I have a debranded Z500 with all the vodafone live stuff still available... (why the hell didn't they just do it like that in the first place, in stead of force feeding us vlive?)

I have no idea, I will never touch Vlive Software. I have so far managed to debrand 4 of my friends phones. It is simply stupid marketing by Vodacom and Vodafone.

The only thing that it may help with is configuration, everything works once-off, but for people like you and me, we just go and manually configure everything.

I WANT MY PHONE THE WAY NOKIA (or Samsung in your case) DESIGNED IT TO BE WITH THEIR SOFTWARE.. THAT YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

I believe the intention was a good one to make it easy for anyone to access the Vodafone Live content by pressing a single key. Not everyone is technically that sharp and many people battle to find their way around even the most basic of phones. KISS works best for the majority!
