PETITION: Virgin Mobile - ZA - Offer BlackBerry Service!

Ditto!!! I am porting to Vodacom on 20 March 2010, because I want a Blackberry. Virgin can not offer this because they don't have 3G. They don't have 3G (which they have been promising me the last 4 years to get), because they run on CellC. It is sad that a company like Virgin has made no progress after 4years. Funny enough... Wirgin Mobile UK has only recently started offering the Blackberry Curve 8520. http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/view...-B851-4FD9-81F6-706F68762708&catalogue=online. Virgin Mobile USA don't even offer a blackberry.

yeah, im moving as soon as I can afford to buy out my contract - literally gona pay to move OFF Virgin....

I specifically went to Virgin for their free SMSs and then secondly, because I could get a HSDPA 7.2Mbps phone 2 years ago. The fastest on the market then... I went to ask the guy in the store (March 09) when they will be getting 3G and he told me in June 09... Im still waiting!

Im in the process of moving over to Vodacom (because of the BlackBerry) and when I asked the guys to cancel my contract, so that I can migrate, they offered me R1000 on the spot to stay with Virgin. I 'politely' told them to stuff it and give me the paperwork to sign.

I want a Blackberry, mostly for the free web browsing on the device. To be honest, even if Virgin started to offer the same service I'd still port to Vodacom which gives far less network problems.

Guys, before you rush off to port over to Vodacom from Virgin Mobile, let me tell you that it aint gonna happen overnight, I was originally an iTalk client, I ported over to Virgin Mobile and now I want to port back to MTN. Well there is a technical issue with my port request. I have been trying to port to MTN since the 23rd of January 2010. They are still trying to work out what is wrong with their system and why I cant be ported back. All I can say is good luck to you.

Remember that not only must you move over to Virgin Prepaid but ensure that you have RICAed that sim card with Virgin. Even though you are leaving, according to MTN they will not port a sim card that has not been RICAed. I tried two Vodacom Outlets in January, purchased 4 sim cards, the process failed each time. I asked them to cancel the port. Tried an MTN outlet had no success, tried another MTN outlet on the 19th of February. They are still processing my request, I doubt they are going to get it right. its been 3 weeks now.:(

A number does not have to be RICA'd with the current service provider to port to Vodacom. See the port procedure below.

1. We submit the port request on our system (If it is prepaid, we have to enter it as such, if it is contract (individual or business name) we enter it as such. If details do not match (ID number or Comp Reg #) the donor network will reject it as a "account mismatch" and then you have to confirm the detail and resubmit. If all else fails, we log a call with our MNP support desk, and they contact the donor network to rectify the issue.

2. Once port is approved by donor network, the client can port in as a prepaid number (even if he is a contract subscriber on the donor network) - Remember, with Vodacom, if you are porting in as prepaid, the store needs to issue you with a PREPAID STARTER PACK, and not a "sim swop". You will recognize the "sim swop" as being a single blue envalope. A prepaid starter pack is one that is wrapped by that darn difficult plastic crap to open. The store then registers you for RICA on the prepaid system and flags you as a porting client. The port will then take place on the date you selected. Once port is done you dial 100 to activate your sim. You are now a VODACOM PREPAID customer.

3. If you are porting to Vodacom and wants to go on contract, you select the deal you want, store issues you with the handset required. You get activated on our vetting system and gets flagged as a porting client. In this case, you will receive a blue envelope with your new Vodacom sim (to be provisioned with your cell c, virgin or MTN number). Remember if you are a Vodacom customer already, but doing a service provider port, you will keep your current sim.

That is correct. The request that I ensure that my Virgin Mobile sim has been RICA'd was made by MTN and not Vodacom.

Both Vodacom and now MTN have not managed to port my number and its not because of Virgin Mobile. Remember I was a MTN iTalk client before I ported to Virgin (a smooth transition that took a few hours) iTalk no longer exists. When MTN tries to proceed with my port request they receive an error message saying the mobile number already exists on the MTN network. While I am still on the Virgin Network. They (MTN) have elevated my request, its been 3 weeks.

If you would like, you can PM me your number and I will have a look on my system and see what the error was and log it with our MNP desk and see what they say.

Dial and select *147# and select option 7 for the BlackBerry service. I unfortunately can't say that it works as I don't have a BlackBerry.
Please don't say it won't work if you haven't tried it. Cell C = Virgin Mobile. If anybody remembers that Virgin Mobile users were able to send Cell C Please Call Me's, you will know what I'm talking about.
