Hi Guys

I am looking into upgrading next month to the Curve 8900 but I have read on plenty websites how people complain about the trackball getting stuck and you need to clean it on a regular basis.

Does anyone here have one and do you have problems with the trackball?

I was looking into getting the Bold 9700 but on my Talk 240 @ Vodacom there is a R1900 pay in. I am not very keen on paying that kind of money on a handset.

Thanks

I have the 8900 and its been fine for me, it would be nice to have the 3G of the 9700 because their are not that many EDGE towers around and GPRS can be slow.

If you want to pay less then look at the 85(???) the new one. It has a trackpad, more memory, a worse camera with no flash but everything else is the same as the 8900.

I have a Bold 9000 and I can confirm the trackball is useless. I've returned mine twice in one year and had to wait a collective 10 weeks for it. Either get the 9700 or 8520.

Also have a bold 9000 with trackball. Lasted a year and then they had to replace the phone. As stated 8520 is a. Solid cheap alternative, otherwise 9700.

Cheers

Thanks guys

After hours of reading reviews and forums on trackball vs. trackpad I have decided to bite the bullet and go for the Bold 9700. It's just so much beter in many ways, trackpad, HSDPA, software version 5.0 and many more. I do not want to sit 2 years with a phone that I am not happy with and that requires constant maintenance to keep the trackball working. I have to say give or take about 85% of people states that they had to replace the trackball twice or more times in 2 years. The replacing is not that bad as the phone will be under warranty but as you all know taking a phone for repairs you end up at least 2 weeks with out it.

Then again you will come across people that said they never experienced any problems with the trackball or they don't mind the maintenance but with my track record of luck I will end up taking the phone back every 4 weeks. :)

Thanks for all your replies.
