Niiiiiiice!! Don't let this one grow legs. :p

When did you get a 40D?

It's a friends 40d. I'm just playing with it for a few days. I had to clean everything on it before I even tried to take a picture with it. Looked like somebody had used the sensor as a placemat at a rib joint on a all you can eat night. Damn thing was filthy. Nice camera tho. Thinking of maybe making him an offer for it. :D

I might wait a couple more months for the 60D. Or...... I might just go pick up a 7D. To many decissions. :p

@MMM. I'm still feeling my way when it comes to the 7D but I can say without reservation it's a great camera.

With the announcement of the 550D I see little reason to even consider anything in the XXD range.

I was going to ask you how you are finding the 7D. The 550D looks like a great camera on paper but I will need to go and play with it to see how it feels in my hands. I know this is weird but I really like the weight and size of my old 20D. A friend recently got the 450D and it feels light weight and cheap. I really don't like the feel of the 450D. I would imagine it's like going from a BMW or Merc to a Dacia or a Geely. :(

Maybe TonyA had it right in his post above? Try get a good used 40D. The things that I really like about the 7D is the built-in remote flash trigger, new focus and light metering systems. I'm kind of hoping these will be in the new 60D, when it comes, just with a lower pixel count. The new tech of the 7D with a 15mp sensor and maybe the Digic V processor. Now that's all on my wish list. :D

Glad to hear - how are you doing with those massive CR2 files? ;)

Until the 60D lands, of course. If they make one - it's due roundabout now. With the exception of the 50D, each xxD launched about 18 months after its predecessor.

It'll be at least 18MP if they make one. I do suspect, however, that the 7D is the 60D. The 50D launched a year after the 40D, and at the time I read that Canon stated that going forward the release cycle will be 1 year. The 7D launched a year after the 50D. So unless Canon has a 60D to be out any day now, I'm thinking they probably axed that line. I imagine it would be pretty difficult to make one now - the 550D is pushing the lower limits, so they'd have to improve a few things that would essentally make it on-par with the 7D. Well, we can hope :)

That kind of makes sense Koffie but do you really think Canon will drop the xxD range completely? There are so many rumors doing the rounds at the moment. I could imagine a 60D being the 7D but without the wireless flash control, only one Dicig proc. and the weather sealing. This would probably place it right between the 7D and 550D, price wise anyways. It would still be better than the 550D because of the new focusing system and possible have the Digic V processor. Maybe? It is overdue so you may well be on the money.

@Bwana. Don't take any note of Koffies comments about the CR2 sizes. He is just jaloors. :D

Well I can tell you now this 5DmkII , 25-29mb CR2 files with a few layers is pushing around 300mb files now in Photoshop.

I don't think my PC likes me anymore.

:-)

But storage is cheap! :p

I already have 6 HDDs in my PC and I'm also running out of space so I feel your pain.

Storage is cheap but I can certainly feel the difference on my computer between processing a 15MP CR2 and processing a 10MP CR2. My old 6MP DNG files feels almost instant by comparison.

You know when you're done you dont have to keep all those layers, right?

I'm getting some 30mb+ files out of the 7D.

Cant say I've noticed much of a difference.
