Telkom press release:
"As part of its long term agreement with Telkom in 2003, recognised unions, including Communication Workers Union and Alliance of Telkom Unions have agreed to a fixed amount to be paid to Telkom bargaining unit employees, based upon the performance of the Company, known as gainsharing awards.
Enhanced productivity, increased efficiencies, reduced finance charges and continuous investment in training and development, together with a strong uptake of data services and robust growth in mobile customers allowed the Company to exceed its stringent financial and performance-related targets. This led to a favourable payout of the 2005 gainsharing awards.
In support of its vision of becoming a leading communications company with a heart for its people, the Company initiated an additional 20% payout for operational and support level employees – a significant increase when compared to the fixed amounts negotiated with Organised Labour.
At a meeting today, Organised Labour was informed of an administrative error which resulted in certain operational level employees not receiving a percentage of the Company-initiated additional payout. This error has since been rectified and these employees have been informed that they will receive the outstanding amount on 15 June."
