I can possibly get a legit US Itunes account and want to know if it will work here in SA if I want to rent movies on Itunes. I know some sites like hulu blocks SA IP's from accessing their service even if you have a US account, does Apple do the same?

I used a friends Apple TV in Europe recently to rent a movie and it was great. With broadband prices coming down as fast as it is it might become a option soon.

I have a US Itunes account - never had a problem.
BUT I have only purchased - never rented.

Even with iTunes vouchers and things?

Yes, you're still violating the terms and conditions you agree to when signing up for a US iTunes account. (for use exclusively within the United States) That being said, it's still better than pirating the movie IMHO.

@ VertigoZA Since I do it on a regular basis I was wondering what sort of time am I looking at?

None, I should think because violating a ToS is not "illegal". There's no law governing it and at worst you'll face a civil suit. Probably all you'll get is just a banning and a seizure of your account. If they care. I think the ToS is just there to keep the record companies from bleating like a wounded sheep. I stopped giving a hoot about the record companies' stupid zoning altogether now. Got myself a US account and I'll be damned if I'm ever buying a CD from a shop in SA. Screw 'em all: got money, will buy. ToS? Pffft.

The only part where you may get nailed by the law is the fictitious US address you supplied. That probably constitutes fraud. Hopefully the SA guavamint won't see the value in extradicting you to stand trial in the US... (Pffft again. Die, stupid recording company executives, DIE!)

Also use both US and UK accounts for purchases, even have a few Season Passes for some HD TV shows.

Somewhat off topic but still related, what download speeds are you guys getting on iTunes Movies/TV Shows? I've tried pretty much everything I can think of and they still crawl along 15Kb/s - 25Kb/s max (I'm on a 4Meg line....) while all my other stuff easily hit line max speed. Simultaneous downloads ease the pain as they all get the same speed (15 -25) but I never seem to get anything more.

What OS are you running? XP?

If so try get the half-open patch to change max connections from 10 to about 50.
