VSNL packs $200 m kitty in its South African safari

OK, that's just over a billion to start with. This is going to be interesting, given that the SNO has the Eskom/Transtel infrastructure - wonder how much of this they're going to use for local loop rollout? Roll on the SNO!!
 
VSNL owns a share of Tyco. Anyone want a undersea cable laid?

A billion is not bad considering the SNO will (or should, by all intents and purposes) get access to the local loop. If they go wireless as well lets hope its more successful than other ventures which have taken place in the past couple of years.
 
I wonder how long it would take for Tyco to recoup expenditure should they lay a cable that could compete with the Sat3 - or perhaps they could us another countries landing and run a cable from there.
