Does it also mention that some of the phisher-people [to be non-sexist] are probably using Telkomonopoly's network as well?...wait, what am I saying? - they have to be using Telkomonopoly's network since it is the network that network people are forced to use - even the parasitic phisher-people are affected by the parasitic-flesh-eating monopoly...:D

Telkom warns of con artists' fishy business
June 14, 2005

By Megan Bagdonas

Telkom may be the mask "phishing" frauds are using to wheedle customer's credit information.

"Phishing" is an insidious internet scam were con artists send mass e-mails that look nearly identical to a company or bank's website asking for personal financial information.

If a customer takes the bait and divulges credit or banking information they may find their identity has been stolen and their bank account is shrinking.

An e-mail is now circulating warning Telkom customers to beware of any e-mails that tell customers they must re-register their credit information "for security purposes" or their account will be suspended within 24 hours.

Although Telkom does have online payment methods, the company would never ask customers via e-mail for their credit information, a Telkom official said.

He said while he had not heard of the scam, it would not be surprising if the Telkom image was being used because of the firm's familiar image and large customer base.

He said customers suspecting foul play should call Telkom's crime stop number 086 012 4000.

In South Africa, First National Bank, Absa and Standard Bank customers have been targeted by "phishermen".
