Eskom land rate fundi"S

I'm looking for some advice from an Eskom fundi, or soemone that used to or does work for Eskom (you can stay anonymous)

In my area, i am classed as Rural. It's a long story why, but lets accept it for now. I have a standard household, 2 adults and a child, no machinery, nothing out of the ordinary. As far as Eskom registered me, i pay on Land rate 1, 2 and 3, which is where my question comes. Are those land rates not applicable to farms? Land rate 1 is for 16kv and up, single phase. Rate 2 and 3 is phase 2 and 3. Surely i shouldn't be charged for those? It's and extra R400 a month for those 2 land rates.

Any help or steering in the right direction will help.

If you stay somewhere where there is no municipality for power, and a 11kv line runs pass and you need 80Amps max 380 or some even 220 one phase then you will be group1.

when your power dies 11 at night, you phone eskom and they send someone to fix your line.
because rural lines brake most, they are becoming expensive.

The big line that feeds a area does not break much, but when their is lightning, the eskom worker climb in his bakkie and ask where it hit the line [this is for the 11kv line].

Dit het onder ons aandag gekom dat kliënte by Eskom wat op die “Home Power Rate” is geen netwerk of dienste gelde betaal nie, ongeag die feit dat hul ook op kleinhoewes woon. Dus word die netwerk deur diegene wat op die sogenaamde “Landrate” is gesubsidieer. Ons het op aanbeveling van ‘n burgerregte organisasie 'n forum gestig wat hul misnoeë wil uitspreek oor dié beginsel van Eskom. Ons wil nie diegene wat reeds op “HOME POWER RATE” is benadeel nie, maar ons wil hul verseker ook nie subsidieer en/of ons self benadeel nie. Dit is ons strewe om gelyke regte/behandeling vir almal te bekom waar almal volgens ‘n eenvormige beginsel betaal.

Ons wil graag alle ESKOM kliënte uit nooi om by hierdie forum aan te sluit en hul bydrae te lewer oor hoe ons die probleem die hoof kan bied. Daar is geen koste hieraan verbonde om aan te sluit nie. Dis bloot 'n wyse waardeur 'n belangegroep hul mening lig om die pad vorentoe te beplan, en aksies indien nodig te ko-ordineer.

Gaan kyk na jou rekening , net onder jou meter lesing net regs van jou "PREMISE ID NUMBER" is "TARIFF NAME". As daar staan Land Rate 1,2,3 betaal jy tussen R600 en R800 meer per maand op jou rekening. Daar kan dalk nog ander tariewe ook wees, ons het dit op Eskom se webwerf probeer kry maar self met die hulp van kliëntediens kon ons dit nie opspoor nie.
Om diegene wat nie internet toegang het nie, nie in die skadu te laat nie, versoek ons vir die wat wel internet toegang het om hul op hoogte van sake te hou.
Ek wil u amper verseker dat ESKOM die feite stellings in die e-pos sal afmaak as bog, ek verseker jul egter dat dit nie is nie!
Stuur asb die e-pos aan almal wat hierby kan baat vind.

This landrate tariff sucks. It not just applied to farmers, but poor indigents on smallholdings as well. And it cross-subsidises not just Homepower, but everyone, including FBE to the masses (free basic electricity - 70kWh per month now, I think).

With the new 1st April tariffs you will now be paying R977.15 inc VAT a month on Landrate 1,2,3 BEFORE any usage - just for the privilege of having the ability to switch on a light. If you use a miserly 100kWh per month you will be paying a whopping 1056 cents per kWh (that’s R10.56). That’s VERY expensive electricity..

Your only option is to 'downgrade' to Landrate 4, and it will cost you R6500. You'll loose your 3 phase, and you'll only pay 583 c/kWh for the same usage. But if you use more than 400kWh per month you will pay more than you did on Landrate 1.

If you were on Homelight/Homepower with the NERSA designed inclining block tariffs, for 100kWh, your total monthly bill would be just R70.57 incl.

The thing I can't understand is how NERSA seems to have ignored the service/network charges that make these tariffs so expensive and how Eskom can justify increasing these network / ‘maintenance’ costs by 26% each year, already having upped the kWh cost.

BTW, Robertvv - it's now 230v/415v
